Having personally been involved with the effects of this terrible disease, through my niece (diagnosed with liver cancer at the precious age of 15 mo's & by the Grace of God stepped into remission on Valentine's Day, just 6 mo's after diagnosis) I applaud you for your desire to donate to unique cancer charities. My sister has links on her site to the different hospitals, etc. that did the surgery to remove the tumor and the hospital that did her chemo treatments, and although they are all great and worthy of receiving donations, I think the one that just hits me just so, is http://www.cwoh.org/ This is an organization that accepts donations in order to buy bicycles, riding toys and safety helmets for children with life-threatening diseases, such as cancer! Regardless of which charity you chose to donate to - you will know that you did the right thing because God will have steered you to the right one!!

I participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. It's a 60 mile walk over three days to raise money for breast cancer research and treatment. You can participate by either walking (which requires a donation of about $2200 that you raise--and it's actually pretty easy to raise it believe it or not) or you can Crew, which costs $100 and no donation requirement. They are held in 12 cities throughout the country and since I'm in Arkansas and we don't have one, I pick a different city each year I participate. I meet great people and help out a worthy cause and am worn out and elated after the weekend--which is kind of the point. It is truly life changing! Also, alot of travel expenses for volunteer work is tax deductible, so that's why I don't mid the travel. Good luck. Here's the website:

There are so many deserving charities . . but the ones I focus on have to do with childhood cancer . . these little guys dealing with cancer in their short lives its just so wrong on any level. The little ones just don't understand, yet they continue to play and just be kids while being so, so sick. It breaks my heart. My son is at least old enough to understand what is going on . . but the little ones just havn't had a chance. Please support childhood cancer research and the goals to totally eliminate all suffering from childhood cancer.
CureSearch unites the world's largest childhood cancer research organization, the Children's Oncology Group, and the National Childhood Cancer Foundation through the mission to cure childhood cancer. Research is the key to the cure.

Another charity to consider is sarcoma research. Sarcoma is a deadly disease because very little research has been conducted. It is a difficult, persistant and rare type of cancer that can build a resistance to treatment. There are over a dozen types of sarcoma that predominately strike children and young adults. The common types of sarcoma are bone cancers like osteosarcoma and Ewings sarcoma. But there are also soft tissue sarcoma of the abdomen, uterus, heart, muscles, neck, head, face, and fatty tissue. (liposarcoma, fibrosarcoma, angiosarcoma, leiomysarcoma). You can help fund a cure by supporting the Sarcoma Foundation of America who conducted yearly fundraising activities:

A good place to begin is at www.give.org where you can view a pie chart about how much money in each organization actually goes to administrative costs and how much to the charity itself. There are many there besides the American Cancer Society like Susan Komen breast cancer and others but I guess you have to just go down the list and read in order to see them all.

Appendiceal cancer is a rare condition that gets little funding for research. Check out www.pmpawareness.org for some information on this cancer and how you can help.

it really doesn't matter which one because your funds will be doled out to all charaties who raise money for cancer and/or the diseases that can lead up to.
the best thing to do is donate to a small college who does research in disease or invest in a student or two who are very bright and wish to follow their dreams in the fields of cancer and disease/research.
good luck!
