It is according to scripture wrong for a woman to instruct the men.
Naturally as a Rev. she would be doing this.

This question arises fairly often, understandably. Some feel it is a slight to women. But that is not truly so. Interestingly, this came up as a Question From Readers in the March 1, 2006 issue of a Bible journal. Paul wrote at 1 Corinthians 14:33, 34: “As in all the congregations of the holy ones, let the women keep silent in the congregations . . . “

Paul was discussing matters relating to Christian meetings. He underscored the objective of Christian meetings: that the congregation may receiving upbuilding. See 1 Corinthians 14:4, 5, 12, 26.

Paul’s instructions to ‘keep silent’ appears three times in chapter 14 and is addressed to a different group each time but the reason for the instruction is always the same: “let all things take place decently and by arrangement.” 1 Corinthians 14:40.

Verse 28 instructs those speaking in tongues. Verse 30 instructs those prophesying. And verse 34 instructs the women. It may be that some of the women were challenging what was said in the congregation and Paul’s counsel would help these sisters avoid such a disorderly spirit and humbly accept their position within God’s headship arrangement, especially when it came to their husbands.

Moreover, when the sisters kept silent in the congregation, they would be showing that they were not trying to be teachers in the congregation which was not permissible. Compare 1 Timothy 2:12. This did not mean Christian women could not speak in the congregation. Sometimes Christian women prayed or prophesied in the congregation.

Christian women ‘keep silent’ by refraining from trying to assume the role of a male and instruct the congregation.

The whole issue is with authority within the body of Christ as it is established in scripture. Therefore since scripture very clearly insist that men fill the positions of authority in the home and the church, and because it warns that women are not to usurp the authority of the man nor teach them but to submit to authority it would stand to reason that women are not called to preach.

I have heard one woman who preached with wisdom and charisma, and some believed she preached in the power of the Holy Spirit, however, that doesn't change the scriptures on this subject. Perhaps God used her because the "men" who were supposed to do the work were negligent in obeying God. I don't claim to fully understand that particular
instance, so I can only guess at that.

There are women prophets in scripture, and the older women are told to teach the younger women, but there is nowhere in the Bible where a woman is called to preach either in word or
example. Again; the key issue here is authority, and the positions of authority in the body of Christ are clearly given to the men.

From personal experience, and from common knowledge in the business world and other places where women could hold positions of authority, I have seen that most men will not submit to the authority of a woman even in a world where it is increasingly common to see women in those positions. The reason for this is simple - God created men and women different, and gave each certain responsibilities, and no matter how hard people try to change His plan it doesn't work in the end. Temporary conditions don't justify disobedience. God knows far more about what is right and necessary and good than puny men or women with limited intelligence.

Sure. Read about some of the women in the Bible, you'd be surprise how liberally things were for Christian women.

As for speaking in church, you have to understand the culture and why this was stated. While the preaching was going on and people were speaking in tongues, some women were talking and asking questions. Paul was simply stating that they should be quiet during this time and wait until they got home to ask questions. Read the whole chapter, do not just pick out a single verse.

The prohibition against women speaking in the church is found in 1 Cor. 14.34-35. Read it, but be sure to read the entire context, beginning in chapter 12. Beginning in chapter 12 and going through 13 and 14, the context is that of spiritual gifts. Paul was writing about women speaking using some spiritual gift such as tongues or prophecy.

Don't take a scripture out of its context. An old saying goes, "A TEXT taken out of CONTEXT becomes merely PRETEXT."

As far as women teachers and preachers, they may perform these roles as long as they aren't teaching men. (I Timothy 2:12) If they are teaching other women or children, they are allowed to hold those positions.

The point of silence in the churches was because the women would ask their husbands what was meant by the teacher while the message was being delivered, which disrupted the discourse. This is why Paul said this in the preceding passage: "they should ask their own husbands at home." (I Corinthians 14:35)

This is the way I see it: I've never read anywhere in the Bible that women aren't supposed to lead services. All of God's children are supposed to be witnesses, anyway. Plus, in the Bible, Jesus encouraged people not to worship the law, but to worship the God behind the law. Whatever God leads each individual to do is what should be done. If He leads a woman to preach, then that's perfectly fine. My boyfriend's mom preaches. :)

I see nothing wrong with it, if God calls a woman into the ministry. A lot of customs have changed since biblical times. Women weren't allowed to do a lot of things then that are taken for granted now.

Women have been feeding humanity since the beginning of time. Why should they not be permitted to feed them spiritually as well?

If you are going to take the words of Paul, who was clearly a misogynist and homophobe, literally, then I suggest you keep kosher and put menstruating women in a tent in the back yard because they are unclean.

Get real.
