Know about the hurdles in reducing it to 110 volts? Will it be too expensive?Whether it was originally distributed in those countries at 220 volts and subsequently reduced to 110 volts...

first, 220 volts is the voltage or potential difference, not resistance

second, u'r understanding that it is 110 volts abroad,
Several standards exist around the world for electrical power distribution. In addition to the obvious physical connector differences (plugs and sockets), AC electric power can be delivered at differing voltage and frequency.

Canada, Mexico and the United States all use a 100–127 volt, 60 hertz electrical system, (as do some other central and south american countries), which shares the same physical connectors.

Most of Africa, Asia and Europe use a 220–240 volt, 50 hertz electrical system, with a variety of differing physical connectors.

third, why convert 220 volts to110 volts
i see no justification
sure, north america cannot be correct & the rest of the world wrong
i see it's just the other way around !

originally,

u will get some data ^

hope i could clarify u'r doubts, else post details / mail me

AC electrical power distribution was invented in USA (Tesla). So going to 220 volts is doing something different. The advantage of using 220 volts is the the conductors can be smaller, i.e. thinner conductors as it would need to carry less current for the same power delivery. However 220 volts is more dangerous and prone to sparks when plugging appliances in. This is why in India, many electrical outlets have a switch for each outlet. In USA this is not required.

So to answer the question of conversion to 110 volts, as a country; it would cost too much money to change all the wiring to support twice the current.

220 volts is not resistance. It is potential difference between electrodes. The unit of resistance is ohm. When the voltage is reduced from 220 to 110, the flow of electrons is increased. And, of course, it is more expensive because when the flow of electrons is generally increased along a conductor, the electrical appliance must have to be designed in such a way to bear the inflow of electrons. Otherwise, it would burn of due to extra dissipation of thermal energy that cannot be contained by the resistivity of the wire carrying the current into the appliance!

The voltage is 220V. The resistance is a different property. You can buy a transformer that reduces the voltage from 220V to 110V. Those come in a variety of power ratings from one big enough for an electric shaver to one big enough for an electric iron.

For efficiency reasons power is always generated at higher voltages and then boosted even higher (by transformers) for long distance distribution. Then it is distributed locally at voltages like 220 or 110 for consumer use.

this is a question of physics and financial conditions of our country

that is exactly because the more developed nations care more for LIFE than material---and thats coz ...u know the reasons ...right?

the more voltage--the lesser will be the current--the lesser will be the resistance

so as to facilitate MINIMUM loss of energy by resistance of wires, the voltage is kept high
so in a way,-- a HIGH voltage is BETTER

BUT,...it poses a threat to human life....the developed nations can afford a loss of energy if the loss of life is at stake

THATS why in india electricity is at such a low voltage

it EASIER,not difficult to have a low voltage---but due to the fear of losing much energy if it was slow---our country has taken such a step

it was originally planned to be 420. some body cheated and reduce it to 220 V and we are still paying for the trick played on us.

there r main thing in doing so is that in india the center of production and and consuption r quite far then in abroad this is the main cause .......
