Not recommended. Takes way too long and you may end up fattening it too much. I believe "Jamie Oliver" has some recipies if you want to try but i wouldnt go through the hassel if i were you. You can buy it at the supermarket!

There is another diet option other than dog food. Some people choose to feed a raw diet. This involves feeding the dog raw meaty bones and organ meat. However it is not as simple as throwing a couple chicken bones in a bowl everyday. If you wish to feed this type of diet, do lots and lots of research first. Switching to this diet without knowing what your doing can lead to nutritional problems for your dog. I'll give you some links as a starting point in research if you are interested in this type of diet.

You need to be careful about making your own dog food, because you need to be certain your dog is getting the proper nutrients.
If you are looking for a dry food NOT affected by the recalls, I suggest http://www.frrco.com/121668
If you are considering Raw, I recommend reading this book:

If you are going to try cooking a balanced diet, I highly suggest talking to your vet and researching the best way to make sure your dog gets what he needs.
I really think the book above will help you considerably, and you can probably find it in your library.

mmmmmmmmmmm.
I give my dogs or should I say I make up, a weeks worth of food for my dogs.
mince meat {beef} mixed with rice, vegies and spaghetti.
Add eggs.{for a shiny coat.}
This, I did for a few months.
Then, I heard of raw bones. mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Tried it. I feed my 2 dogs for $5 a month and they love it.
Chicken frames and necks. The best condition, I have ever seen my dogs. You have to try it, too believe it. Info on internet. Do your dogs a favour and switch,

For your pet's best health, try this recipe for homemade pet food.
Makes three to four servings. Well tolerated by cats and dogs. Mix together:
* 1 cup high-quality cooked fish, free range chicken or turkey
* 4 tbsp. cooked brown rice or preservative-free kibble (choose brands from the health food store)
* 2 tsp. nutritional yeast
* 1 tsp. green superfood powder like barley grass
* 1 tsp. flax oil
* 1 raw egg
* 1 cup finely chopped vegetables like celery, carrots, or zucchini
* 1 can chicken-rice soup (choose low sodium, nutritious brands from the health food store)
Warm all ingredients for a few minutes on the stove top. Serve according to your pet's size. Your pets will love it! Ours do.
