Because they have no sense of history. History must always be analyzed according to the thinking of the time at the historical events occurred. A good is example is that you cannot compare the cost of living back in the Colonial era of American in terms of modern currency and modern values of money. I had a history professor of the American Revolution prove this to the class---do ask me do demonstrate the technique because it was a long time ago.
Ways of thinking change with the history of the times. At one time Communism looked attractive and many intelligent people jumped on board to support it. In the thinking of today Communism is a bankrupt philosophy.

It's not "liberal philosophy today".
It's commonsense that comes from a society that allows freedom of thought.
the "freedom of thought" part is where you might say philosophy comes into it. The same freedom that's giving you the right to express yourself
