Descend.

One could say 'The descent was hard', but in the context you have, descend is the correct.

Descend is the proper word to use in this phrase.

Shall we have tea before we descend or you could say I will make my descent after Ive had my tea.

Just different tenses.

Descend, the other would only apply in this context:" following tea, we shall begin the descent"

'descend' is a verb = to move from a higher to a lower place; to come down, to go down or to slope down.
'descent' is a noun = a way down; a down incline or slope but also the act or an instance of descending.

So... 'Shall we have tea before we descend?' or you could say, 'Shall we have tea before our descent (from the mountain)'
