£50 for Corgi plumber to disconnrct the gas (assuming it's a gas fire) £150-£250 for fireplace ripping out and boarding and skimming over.

May depend on the type of chimney they may have to brick it up

I just had my hallway, stairs and landing re-plastered and it cost me £300.

If you do the removal of the fireplace yourself then that should save you some money. If it is gas, you will need a qualified person to seal off the gas supply, but you should be able to do the rest yourself.

Good luck, I'm in the middle of now decorating and it looks miles better than it did before!!!!

Are you sure you want to remove your fireplace? They're the focal point of the room, and a great selling point. However, if you do want to go ahead, get a few quotes, and compare prices, then go with the plasterer you feel comfortable with.

I don't know why you'd want to do that, fire places add character to a room and are a link to the past. Your money might be better spent restoring it.

Anyway, probably close to a days work, so about $400 for labour (not including painting) and not much for materials.
