It can be done and it is done all the time but its expensive and takes a long time to organise. Australia is a rabies free country so quarantine is very focussed on making sure your dog is healthy. Shots need to start 6 months in advance and certificates can only be issued by a recognized government vet. Usually its easier (but a bit more expensive) to have an animal transport company do it for you. And your dog will have to be quarantined in Australia for a few months as well before they release her to you.

n4w05 --something does not add up in your comment, the quarantine for dogs entering from england into australia is only 30 days not 6 months, so you gave her up for a one month quarantine where you could have still went where she is quarantined and visited her????? Someone I know went from Canada to Australia with their dog so I know visitation is possible, . so you could not have done much research or put much thought about your dog when you left the dog behind.
now for the poster of the question
I understand Iraq is not an approved country, so it means you have to send the dog to another country first for 6 months to live before you can take it to Australia, that really sucks! :(
---------------------------------
AQIS does not allow the direct importation of dogs and cats from non-approved countries.
Importation of dogs and cats from non-approved countries can only occur indirectly via a country approved by AQIS. Cats and dogs must be continuously resident in an approved country for at least six months prior to export to Australia. If you intend to import an animal indirectly via an AQIS approved country, you must first contact the quarantine service in the approved country to ensure that your dog is eligible for entry. Your animal must meet all of the pre and post-entry quarantine requirements of the approved country.
Animals that have been resident in an approved country for a minimum of six months can then become eligible for import into Australia under the AQIS import conditions that apply to that particular approved country. AQIS recommends that you commence import requirements for Australian quarantine as soon as possible after your arrival in the approved country.

And even then your dog will likely have to go into quarantine once in australia for at least another 30 days from some countries 2 months
THat is horrible!!!
Looks like the closest countries are kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar Do you know anyone in these countries or others on the approved list you could stay with for 6 months maybe longer due to needing to book for quarentine space in australia months ahead of arriving or at least to leave her with until she can into australia?
Amazingly in Canada we have no pet quaratiness no matter where in the world an animal is coming from and we don't have a bunch of dog running around with rabies, the laws do require vaccination against rabies and that suffices to protect the dog from gettng rabies should it get into a battle with a skunk or raccoon so the public is not put in danger.
I can understand a one month quarantine if a dog recieved a rabies shot just prior to arriving, though 2 weeks would suffice, any thing more is sheer overkill

check out the web for quarantine details. If it is possible, you may wish to check out the costs. It will be a very expensive dog. Price is not always the issue when you love your pet, but do you have that much money. Try www. quarrantine.gov.au
