It would be one thing if they actually had any solid proof, but they don't. It seems to me that they're just so afraid of spending an eternity in Hell that they have to keep lying to themselves that God doesn't exist so that they don't have to think about the eternal consequences of their rejection of God. Why else would they even remotely care about disproving His existance?

Myself I am not an atheist, not per se, but I feel I understand atheists.
Just as you, for example, believe that there is a God and the God is such-and-such (good, loving, vengeful or possessing other qualities), so do atheists believe that there is no god. And this puts them at a better philosophical standing, because they reason anything not proven to exist, might as well not exist. So the intelligent atheist doesn't tell you off for believing in a god, but treats you the way a follower of a different religion would.
The non-existance of God is not a proven fact. But neither is the opposite.
There is a philosophical rule, called Ockham's razor. It says that if you don't need something to make your philosophy whole, don't use it at all. Many atheists construct their spiritual/philosophical systems without the need for God, so they don't create a place for him/her/it in the systems.
Of course, the religious-people's favourite argument is the creation of the universe. However, this can be turned around. How do you know that it was the divine being you worship who created it? Or they could ask who created God? And if God always existed "before" the big bang, why couldn't the singularity that made the big bang existed all along as well? (Note that the notion of "before" the big bang is false, because the big bang gave birth not only to space, but to time, too) Also take note of deism, a belief that there was a great being that creaed the world, but that being is too vast to care about us mortals.

You can always go back asking "why?". However, the intelligent atheist may respond proudly "I do not know. I am contemplating the cause." And think about it, doesn't that have a value of its own? Is it that much worse than having been given answers by your holy scriptures/holy men? I guess not.
Granted, there are atheists who will just go "There is no god and whoever believes there is, is stupid", who simply dislike the idea of having a greater being watching their moves, deciding their fate maybe. But this sort of "You're wrong because I'm right" attitude has been a facet of many religions over the years. Just people who don't respect other people to begin with.

Why are Theists so arrogant in their belief that it's an irrefutable fact that God exists?

It would be one thing if they actually had any solid proof, but they don't. It seems to me that they're just so afraid of life and death that they have to keep lying to themselves that God exists so that they don't have to think about the inevitable.

Why else would they even remotely care about disproving evolution.

Some Christians seem to like persecution. Seems you are one of them. You really don't want an answer to that question.

Understanding of the things of God comes from a personal contact with God. Those who don't have it don't get it and probably never will. That's what blaspheme of the Spirit is. Refusal to believe and therefore no contact. After all how can you contact that which you choose not to believe in.

Christians should not bother with atheists. They choose not to believe. The apostle Paul believed in God just not Jesus as Christ. He got set straight and became for the most part the author of modern Christianity. Atheists do not believe in God therefore can not know the things of God. It is their choice. When they die they get what they believe. Buy a heat pump.

What you perceive as arrogance is nothing more than atheists being a bit sceptical about things that don't seem to add up to them, but then Christians come along and try to scare us with threats of Hell... which... we don't believe in, and that just proves to us that we are most likely on the right path.

I mean, not even Christians themselves can agree on what their religion is all about. How many different branches of your religion are there? A dozen plus?

Honestly, how can you expect a sceptic to believe in your religion when not even those following the religion can't agree on what to believe?

Honestly? If it were Christians vs Atheists in a dodgeball game right now I do believe the athiests would be SPANKING us silly! I've seen a lot of incredibly childish and un-Christian-like responses and comments here. And the people being attacked aren't even phased because this is probably the behavior they're so used to observing that it's doing nothing but re-affirming their faith to not explore spiritual faith at all. We look silly. Stop it.

First off, I want you to disprove the FSM, then I want you to disprove the teapot on Saturn's ring. Next disprove all of the other Gods that have been believed in man's history. Until you can disprove Shiva and Thor, then you really are a hypocrite. You can't disprove anything, it is impossible.

By the way you are proving my point in this question that I have asked....

because of the irrefutable fact...

'It would be one thing if they actually had any solid proof,'

We don't need any. How can we disprove something that does'nt exist?

As far as the burden of truth goes, you are in no better position to be chastising anyone for their beliefs, no matter how diferent from yours they happen to be. What makes you think that you are in any position to be rattling on about their lack of proof? I would like to hear what clouded and hypocrtitcal excuse you have to offer as proof for your beliefs... I would conjecture that it is in fact people like yourself who have pushed so called "athiests" to be so outspoken about not believing in your god after years of poeple like you juding and forcing your personal opinions on them. What is so threatening to you about someone believing whatever they want, that certainly doesn't hurt you and really doesn't affect you in any way/ Why is the idea of individuality and diversity so scary to you? I would say that it is YOU not them that is so afraid of the unknoen which is why you must preach about the eternal flames of hellfire promising to consume anyone who does'nt take everything your Ancient novel has to say....maybe instead of wasting your time trying to point out how everyone else in the world has no clue and are deathly afraid, you should use that time to lookin inside yourself and figure out why you are too insecure to live your life with love and acceptance in your heart for your fellow man, and learn to embrace our differences, rather than denounce them. Isn't that what your god would want you to do to love rather than hate?

I don't care about if you believe in god or not. Just don't force feed your silly man-made religion down my throat by placing the 10 commandments in public places, a pledge with god in it, money with in god we trust, a president that thinks that god talks to him, intelligent design in schools,...

You Christians really need to realize not everyone cares or believes in your religion or your vision of god, and to respect the views of others. Right now it's the christian view or get out.

Atheists dont KNOW god does not exist. They BELIEVE he does not exist as there is no proof.

In the same way, Christians cannot KNOW that he does exist. They simply believe or have faith that he exists.
