if god is light (as i've been informed from other christians) and he is everywhere, why did he say "let there be light?" would it not have been more appropriate to create darkness?

perhaps they mean he's light in the sense that he's not heavy...

he ain't heavy,
he's my father....

hisgloryisgreat... i'm sure there'd be a great number of college physics professor's who'd be interested in your ability to create something from nothing. perhaps you're referring to the creation of the bible when you say creating something from nothing.

In creating the heavens and the earth God made them out of nothing. Nothing is not God, it's not his essence, it's not light. It's nothing. That is the amazing thing about God as the creator. And it's amazing also that we can understand the concept of creating something out of nothing, because he has given us the ability to do so. It's not so easy to grasp the concept of eternal existence and that the whole of what is is filled with God's glory, but that's another question.

It is my opinion that the bibles version of creation is just mythology written by men who thought the world was flat. How does anyone know what "GOD" said or thought as the universe was being created

"God is light" is but a metaphor to describe how He can answer life's most difficult questions and show us the Good Way. It has nothing to do with the real light that He created.

Light is a metaphor for the spiritual enlightenment from inside the believer. Visible light may often be used as a symbol for same.

I wonder if I told you about the Gap Theory of Genesis 1:1 - 1:2 yet?

If true, then the earth was destroyed, and then remade. Thus, a waste and a desolation.

What we pick up on is God recreating the earth, if it's true.

The concept is God illuminates the darkness of our soul. It's best to look at God from the stand of spirit than from the physical. Trying to make Him fit the physical universe we see and feel gives us a poor and warped image of who He is.
