You could have a simple bone spur. Ask your doctor and get a scan on your heel. Spurs can sometimes grow larger and more painful.

Although there is a lot of possible causes, the most likely one is plantar fasciitis. Does it hurt to walk in the morning but get easier during the day?

Contrary to popular belief, it is very rare that heel spurs cause pain, unless they are irritating or causing plantar fasciitis.

One of my friends stepped on a sewing needle which imbedded itself in her foot and she didn't know abbout it til a couple of months later when ot got infected and she needed surgery... ;)
