No. But mean, cranky, manipulative people do not become nicer as they age.

No. I don't think all of them do. My mum is 86 years old and in a nursing home. She is a cranky old biddy but she never was a really happy person and with the pain of arthritis and lack of mobility and independence, she is constantly frustrated. There are many other people in her situation that we meet who try to be more positive and cheerful and that helps them to get through each day. it is impossible for any of us to know what the elderly feel as they approach this last stage of their lives. Some are able to remain in their own home and with support from family or the community, are able to enjoy their lives. Till our turn comes, we won't truly understand. I certainly hope that by the time I reach that age, there will be many more medications to assist with pain management because otherwise I know I'm going to be a cranky old biddy myself.

As we age our brain eventually deteriorates. This deterioration commonly manifests in our impulse control.
Poor decisions, and saying things without thinking of the consequences may not be uncommon. You may take it as mean, manipulative, cranky. But it's what it is.

the world is changing too fast for them, my in laws think that raising a family is like it was back in the 60's. they think we should make plans every weekend with them, like when are we supposed to do everything else that we need to do? it's like why do they have to go shopping on the weekends? they are retired, they have all week to shop, then all they can do is complain about how crowded or rushed everyone else is. why? because they have always shopped on the weekend, go figure. i just think it their way of getting back at us for when we were teenagers! enjoy!

no but as people age they get more set in their ways because their brains have less plasticity and their thinking gets more crystallized. It probably depends on the individual person
