Yes, you can still tan, but it will be even harder to do so.
If you want a great tan, here's a way that most don't know...

If you like the pool, here's a great way to tan and stay cool. Try wading in a pool for a while. Because your submerged in water, the sun can't burn you easily. Secondly, even though you are in the water, the sun still has access to your skin (consider that the water is clear). The sun actually reacts with the chlorine, giving you a nice summer glow.

Try it and see what you find!
Good Luck, copper beauty!

A sunscreen with a high spf number will essentially block all the uv rays so you will not tan at all but that is healthiest for your skin. A screen with a lower spf number will allow more uv to pass and thus may allow you to tan a little depending on the time spent in the sun, but unhealthier for your skin. White skin is the most protective against malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.

I work outdoors and I wear 45plus SPF everyday and I still get a nice tan the sunscreen blocks the harmful UV rays that damage your skin and cause cancer.

(-: The whole point of sunscreen is to prevent the sun from tanning your skin (and causing damage). Experts would have you wear the sunscreen, stay out of the sun, and use a bronzer or self-tanning lotion to get darker.

you will still get a little bit of a tan under the sun with sunscreen. but it is better for you because of the UV rays. it will help to protect your skin against the damages the sun can potentially cause.

If the SPF is high then you will not be tanned in areas where the sunscreen is applied.
