I got a speeding ticket by the california highway patrol, he said I was during 90mph on the freeway and the speed limit is 70mph. I was not in my car, I was driving someone else car. Will that person insurance go up and how can I fight this? This is my first every traffic ticket. I think he made a mistake

It will not affect the owner's insurance. It may affect your insurance unless you go to traffic school, if you are eligible and it is available at that speed. (Even if the clerk's office does not make it available, you can still show up in court and ask for it. You need to make a good impression in that case--the CHP is wrong probably is not going to make it.)

You should certainly inform your P.O. Unless you have some kind of driving restriction as a condition of probation, it is very unlikely that a traffic infraction is going to be considered a violation of probation. But you always make a good impression by keeping your P.O. informed of everything.

As you can see, good impressions mean a lot in the law.

The ticket was made out to you since it was your license. You may get out of higher insurance if they let you go to traffic school. 90 is pretty high so they might not offer traffic school. I doubt the other guy insurance will even find out about it. It doesn't hurt to try and fight the ticket. I would tell your probation officer if I was you just to be safe. It is not like they don't work for the same state.

Cops off duty get speeding tickets all the time, some officers will give a off duty cop some allowance, but if it is really over, even carrying a badge will not help you. And to some officers, if you are a officer, they beleive you know better, also often there are issues between city and county officers, and they look for a chance to write up one of the other officers. Very seldom would a officer on duty get a ticket, but it could happen, I have seen a on duty officer have a wreck in his patrol card and get a ticket for something. ** and I have seen them fixed by the police cheif calling the other departmetn also.

The ticket goes to the driver. Thus, it will not affect the vehicle's owner's insurance rates. Although you indicated that the cop made a mistake, where you going in excess of 70 mph? If so, you are guilty.

One of the conditions of probation is to not break any laws; this includes traffic laws. I would tell your PO about the ticket.

The driver is violating the law, not the vehicle. What are your terms of probation?. Notify your probation officer immediately, he might actually be able to help you, or give you advice. 20 over the limit. What possible defense could you have?. Being on probation, I would think you would be more careful than the average driver.

You just admited to going 90 in a 70mph zone, so why would you fight the ticket. If you really were going 90, then the lesser of two evils would just be to fess up and take the punishment. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

No their insurance will not go up...At least I dont think it will. The laws may be different in California. If you feel the officer was wrong, then you should have the option of going to court and fighting the citation. That's how things are done in Wisconsin.

Yes, their Insurance will go up. No, they won't let you use their car again. Yes, you need to tell your Probation Officer. And NO- you shouldn't fight it. Pay the fine, take your lumps- and learn to take Mass Transit.

Yes to both questions. You go to court and tell the judge you are contesting the ticket. I would advise you to have an attorney as well since you are on probation. Good luck!
