STEREOTYPE ALERT! I'm sure some guys do this, I'm also sure some don't.

Your real question is probably "Why did this guy that I care about accuse me of something that it turned out he was guilty of?" The answer is that he may believe that the best defense is a good offense, or he may have been trying to divert you from noticing what he was doing, or possibly he felt guilty and lashed out. These are not very good ways for him to handle a problem, but you asked "Why?", and these are possible answers.

Sometimes, when you're in a relationship with someone, you might find that they accuse you of something that they have done or experienced in a past relationship. It's the same for guys and for girls. It's not a double standard really, it's a symptom of insecurity. I dated one such guy. He had intense trust issues and he believe that everything he had experienced in the past could have repeated at any time in our relationship. He couldn't let himself trust me and he pushed me away. That's how he became my ex.

Sometimes, men or women do something stupid - like cheating on their partner. Their guilty conscience gets the better of them and they begin to expect retribution on their partner's behalf. A lot of the time, their partners do get even. Some of the time the don't. However, accusations are made.

When a guy, or girl, accuses his or her partner of doing something that they were, in fact, guilty of, it's a sure sign of insecurity. Their partner needs to find out where this insecurity stems from and deal with it accordingly.

It is the age old double standard--a guy can do stuff but a girl doing it is a big no no.

One word....Self preservation. It is so they dont feel bad for things they have done themselves. They think by doing so it justifys their own wrong doings.
