The reason that you shouldn’t have a bf/gf is because you are for your spouse only. There is an American saying that say” why would you buy the cow when you get the milk free”. I converted to Islam and before I became Muslim I had a boyfriend. However after becoming a Muslim and reading on Islam I learned that I am special like a pearl and that I am meant for my husband only. Now this isn’t all people’s thoughts. Some men or women adopt to having a bf/gf and go through more upsets in life when the relationship breaks. But when you are married your more adapt to work things out. There is a link below that offers more on this Idea you can replace gf with bf

muslims girls or boys are not allowed to have relationships with their opposite sex. however they do have the right to choose their partner for life. if a boy likes a girl then he can tell his parents about her so that his parents can talk to the girls's parents about their marriage. similar is the case with the girls too.
in this modern world muslim girls do have bf but it is upto u how to maintain a distance so that u dont end up having a physical relationship which is haraam in islam.
the best is to wait till u get someone who will marry u and b a good friend,

I have been to Saudi Arabia. Several Saudis have told me that it is the tremendous respect that Muslim men have for women that compels them to control and limit all aspects of women's lives. You understand, don't you?
