I'm considering taking the ol' kayak out tomorrow on the IRL (Indian River Lagoon, for you non-Space-Coasters... Eastern Central Florida), and I've been asking this around a lot, just seeing what feedback I can get from all you lovely people. I like to just toss a lure behind me and give it a bunch of line while I'm paddling along. Typically I'll rig a gulp shrimp weedless and let it do it's thing, but does anyone have any other suggestions for a good brackish-water "trolling" lure for a kayak? Any and all suggestions are welcome, and if I have the wherewithal to try your suggestion, I'll let you know how it works... that is of course -if- you get an answer in before I leave tomorrow.... otherwise you get to wait till next time I go out.

Thanks!

Brandon, you're right, I shoulda known better, every time I've had a saturday off at this new job there's either something else I gotta do, or the weather's not right for getting out in that kayak. It's not quite howling today, but it's certainly windier than I want to be paddling around in... or rather windier than I want to be paddling -back- to my launching spot. *mutter* Oh well, maybe tomorrow will be better. (darn lying weatherpeople.)

Nostology... I'll keep that in mind... it's not like anything can hurt at this point as far as lures and stuff go for me, I've just recently gotten to the point that I'm not just catching trash fish when I go out, last two times I went I actually got decent fish, nothing a few times before that (because I said "Oh, crap, puffers....") and a good sized trout a week or so ago... all the tips and hits I can get help, you know.

Thanks guys, and if anyone else has any ideas, I'm gonna leave this one open for a while.

Hmm kinda tough question but try maybe a floating lure like a Rapala (or similar with a lip). I like a Mirror lure but it doesnt have a lip so it wont troll good.

Or a white bucktail jig tipped with shrimp might work good.

Good luck tomorrow I live in just south of IRL and its windy as heck here now . maybe it will be calmer tomorrow. If its windy I would use a jig or what you have been using because topwater bite might not be good.

I like the D.O.A. shrinp jigs also

Hi Gimmenam,

My response is taking into account that you are leaving for IRL in the morning and need an answer ASAP. So here's a fast yet useful answer for you. Have you looked at the vast array of light saltwater lures at Cebela's web site. It's actually overwhelming but here's what you can do. Check out their selection of lures specifically designed for what your doing at IRL and then look in your tackle box (or someone else's ha ha) and see if you/they have a similar lure.

Good luck fishing Gimmenam, hope you have the best day ever of fishing!
