I have heard that chlorine will make your tan fade?? I know the beach works wonders and the ocean with the salt water but what about the pool? Do you loose your tan??

If you think about it chlorine has bleaching aspects..so wouldn't it do it to your skin in a pool....aka...loosing your tan?

If it comes from a bottle, yes.

Chlorine IS a bleach, so it could theoretically have that effect, but in order for it to do so, it would have to be of such a concentration that you would have serious chemical burns!

Remember, the skin you see is DEAD.
The skin that turns dark due to melanin pigmentation is under the skin you see. However, the UV radiation from the sun causes you to slough-off the surface skin faster, as it dries out, revealing the tan underneath.

Please remember that a deep dark tan is a sign of a serious UV burn, and repeated prolonged tanning has been directly linked to skin cancer as a trigger.

As for water "enhancing" a tan (or helping you tan faster), it doesn't...water is 80x denser than air, and absorbs a heck of alot more UV than air, so you actually receive a lesser dose of UV when swimming. The only reason it seems to make a tan or burn occur faster is because even the "water safe" sunblocks are washed off while swimming - hence the caution to re-apply after swimming, well, that and to sell more sunblock!!! (It's also why many dermatologists will tell you to wear a t-shirt while swimming, for the extra SPF of the shirt on your back and shoulders, which are generally out of the water more than under it.)

No you do not lose your tan because of the bleaching agent in chlorine...there is simply not enough there...

You lose your tan as the skin grows out which happens over time...a long time....

Not in my experinces, wouldn't because your in the sun you get more of a tan!... or it would cross each other out, like the pool may bleach your skin but the sun would just tan you again.....

Yeah some times it does go away. Try to stay out of the pool if you want to keep a tan. Sorry :(

I kinda doubt it though it probably depends on how often you swim in a chlorine pool....
dont you think its kind of superficial to worry about how tan youre gonna be??
good luck ( :

I tink the only thing chlorine does to your skin is dry it out. when you're in the water, it's like a big magnifying glass, and helps you get tan really well.
