please give examples that happened some time within, atleast, the last hundred years.
every time someone brings up radical islam's killing of anyone who does not agree with them and using the koran to justify their actions, someone always seems to bring up the inquisition or the crusades or some other action that happened hundreds, sometimes a thousand years ago? Those 'wars' were carried out by kings and emperors who controled an entire nation and made everyone do what they wanted them to. They were not carried out by groups of like-minded religous people who got together and decided to christianize the world through force, such as you see in islam.
They also like to bring up the idea that christian groups kill abortion doctors and other people who's beliefs dont agree with their own but they never seem to have examples or are able to show how the so-called christians justified their actions through the Bible.
please help me understand!

the salem witch trials eh? that was about 400 years ago in a small area of the country carried out by a small group of people. Not a very good example of a world wide religion trying to spread itself through violence.

jtim 24, thats a great msnbc article but I am guessing you didnt read the whole thing considering what you were trying to prove. I think you missed the end:
Coptic Christians are 10 percent of Egypt’s 73 million population and generally live in peace with the Muslim majority, though occasional sectarian clashes occur.
Most recently, Muslim militants attacked churches in the Moharrem Bek area of Alexandria to protest distribution of a DVD they deemed offensive to Islam. Four people were killed in weeklong riots.
Christians complain that they suffer job discrimination, particularly in the high ranks of the civil service, where positions such as general, provincial governor and faculty head are almost invariably held by Muslims.
again, nice try.
Muslims killed 18 christians and burned down 30 churches in response to a cartoon published? that was your argument against Christianity?
Do you get all your news from blogs?

Thank you, someone needed to say it. I am tired of being grouped with extremists. I don't know any Christians who have committed mass murder either.
**Grammar, you do know Hitler was not a Christian right. He consulted the stars, and mystics, the swastika was a symbol from India that he corrupted. He was evil.
The guerrilla terrorists in Africa slaughtering people are not Christians. The heinous acts they are committing come from a place of evil. Anyone involved in those murders knew they were not of God. Is it so hard to believe that in the zeal to discredit Christianity, Satan could dress up people to appear like Christians. I know this will be instantly dismissed, but all Christians know we are involved in a war and Satan has very good spies.
**The KKK are cowards who are bent on being superior, they cannot be true Christians and have this attitude. They belong to that group of people who twist information to make it apply any way that they would like.
**Bush makes me nuts. Out of curiosity, how many Christians here voted to kill people in the Middle East, and I am not talking about the presidential election. From what I have witnessed, the decision to go to war came from the President and isn't it curious how he managed to get into office without being voted in... twice? What do you think that means?

The Inquisition, The Crusades (they murdered Muslims that time), killing "witches" and heretics and anyone who didn't agree with them for hundreds of years, the KKK IS a radical Christian organization (burning crosses), the slaughter of indidgenous people in North, Central, South America and all over the world, burning people at the stake, drowning people with "demons", killing Dr. 's who perform abortions, Bush is a so called Christian and he is responsible for the deaths of 1000's of innocent Iraqis and American soldiers (honestly, how does he sleep?) The Catholics and Protestants of Great Britain & Ireland,...Can I stop now? Well, you asked. The truth is, any group of people can go all wrong when they get fanatical about their beliefs and think they are Gods chosen, whether Christian, Jewish or Muslim. There are even crazy a**ed Buddhists out there. What we need now is not more finger pointing, but radical, fanatical diplomacy. God help us all. Sorry, re-reading your question you said last 100 years, but I did include several of those as did others. Don't forget, besides the KKK, the lynchers of the American South were church-goers. God bless.

Today
Particularly in Asia and Africa there are lot of Christian extremists. I do believe it is fare to say that they are about as active and destructive as the Muslim extremists. This makes sense do to how widespread both faiths are geographically especially in the developping world. Neither the Christian nor the Muslim extremists accurately portray their religion. There are extremists of pretty much every faith carrying out masacres. It is just that Christianity and Islam are widespread and like many religions they get hijacked by personal agendas. I think sometimes when people say things about Christians killing as many people as Muslims do, these are people who are fed up with this kind of distortion of faith and people losing touch with the importance of the brotherhood that is humanity. The Nazi's were Chrisitan Nationalist movement. The KKK is also very politically minded, you should look into its origins. At the same time Al-Qeda, HAMAS, Hezbollah are quite politically minded. The media and people representing these terrorist groups tend to make them out as 100% religious. The truth is religion is a great tool in bringing people together for a cause and saddly far too often, like I mentioned above religion is often hijacked by personal agendas and it turns in senseless bloodshed. I don't believe it is possible to have a terrorist group that can honestly say they are representing a particular action. On that note, there are no religious terrorists, just misguided criminals who desparately try to justify their crimes with their faith.

The Spanish Inquisition was a very long time ago. There has been a lot of violence in the name of Jesus Christ, and that was one of the driving forces behind the Reformation. The Catholic Church had become the Pharisees of their time. Less so now I suppose, but they still have issues.
People who take scripture out of context for their own purposes can justify almost anything. Jesus said to love the Lord our God first, then to love our neighbor. If we'd just do that our lives would be much less violent. Not so if you're a good muslim though.

Examples in the last 100 years?
You can start with the Christian "ethnic cleansing" if Muslims in the Balkans a few years ago.
The murder of 6 million Jews in the Holocaust
And, of course, the current effforts of faux-Christians to justify their desire to kill Muslims based on the fact that a few fanatics committed some horrendous crimes.
Of course, these same bigots will find some rationalization to "exclude" these examples, the same way they find excuses to exclude the Crusades, the Inquisiiton, murders of people they don't like, etc. Fortunately, these fanatics--who are no more "Christian" than the terrorists are true Muslims, are, like the terrorists, a tiny minority. But the two groups are essentially the same, morallly.

Here's a site for you...
The Michigan Museum of Christian atrocities (warning some graphically violent images)
http://www.michiganatheists.org/events/caro/caro.html
How about this one, it chronicles the Witch Hunts from the 9th century C.E. all the way up to 1999!
http://www.religioustolerance.org/wic_burn2.htm
Or HERE a table and chart with the listings of bombings and murders committed by christians on abortion clinics and doctors...
http://www.religioustolerance.org/abo_viol.htm
Perhaps you would also remember that the KKK, the Aryan Brotherhood and other hate filled groups are 'christian' too.
But MOST IMPORTANT here is a report that shows how the radical christians ARE overthrowing the govt in America

There you go.

P.S. Your so called "Christian Values" are actually secular values of the Enlightenment. Prior to that time Christians acted just as barbarically as Islamic fundamentalists do today. See the Spanish Inquisition, Salem Witch Trials, the conquests of the New World, etc.

Why, when someone gives an answer, is your response "but they are not REAL christians" acceptable, when if a Muslim says that, you jump on them for it? Both types of radicals kill in the name of the religion they attach themselves to... Ask any member of the KKK, they will tell you they are a proud christian, and quote the bible to prove their hate is acceptable. Just like the terrorists do with the Koran.. Either both are proofs of the evil of their religions, or neither are..

that's the two. Christian fundamentalism is each bit as risky as Muslim or Jewish fundamentalism. In Sri Lanka it truly is the Buddhist clergymen who carry out political assassinations so no faith is loose from this type of violence. i discover religious fanatics which includes GWB and his administration lots extra frightening than something the Muslim faith has to furnish. do not forget that GWB defined the invasions and occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan as ''Crusades' earlier his advisers instructed him to close his loopy mouth! additionally in the bible you're allowed to stone naughty toddlers to death, in case you desire to. All holy books could desire to be all issues to completely absolutely everyone with the intention to attraction to adherents to the religion. As an atheist i've got self belief that guy created god/s in an early attempt to comprehend and clarify the international we live in. it truly is previous me how people can nonetheless have self belief in such weird and wonderful and superstitious nonsense!
