If you are thinking about selling the house soon then go with a neutral color carpet. It won't necessarily make your home worth more but it will appeal to more people who may interested in your house. and make it easier to sell.

Changing your carpet is not what will get you the most money for your home when selling it but if you really want to change it, you should consider a color that will appeal to the largest amount of potential buyers... that means a neutral color (think taupe beige). Here are some statistics that will show you what will make you the most $$ when staging to sell:
Home Staging 169% return on investment
Lighten & Brighten 769% return on investment
Clean & De-Clutter 594% return on investment
Fix Plumbing, Electrical 196% return on investment
Landscape & Trim 266% return on investment
Kitchen/Bath Upgrades 83% return on investment
Repair Flooring 50% return on investment
Paint Exterior Walls 34% return on investment
Replace Carpeting 39% return on investment
Check this list well. Your money may well be better invested elsewhere. Perhaps just getting your carpets professionnally cleaned would be a better bet.

If your carpet is in really bad condition, you can replace it, or you can put in hardwood floors. Hardwood floors are very popular right now, and in a lot of cases old houses have nice hardwood flooring underneath the carpet. Rip up a bit of carpet in a closet or other inconspicuous area to check the floor’s condition, and compare the price of restoring the hardwood to that of installing new carpet. I have been told by many people that they likethe appearance of a home with hardwood floors and are willing to pay more for a home that has this.......good luck

potential buyers want to buy a house that people who are better than they are would own. the kitchen and the bathroom must be very very clean. Hide all those personal items, fridge magnets, toothbrushes etc. Other people's bathroom items are repulsive. people decide within a couple of minutes if they do not like a house. It must have "kerb appeal", that is, look great when you arrive in a car. Welcoming front door, a tree either side, or something. Front window curtains tied nicely back. do not expect people to imagine how it could look. it must look good now. when they come to look, check the street for rubbish and get rid of it.

Excellent question. Why do't you call a realtor and ask??
I see no humor in your question. Getting extra $$$ if you sell is a serious matter.
My opinion: unless it's a color from another planet, just about anything will do. You'll want to match the paint or wallpaper.
If you live in a muddy area, or you or your husband work in a garage, something dark might be better.
Grease and white??? No way!

Neutral colors will add to the value of your home because buyers may not feel that they have to replace it right away. Light colors will make the room seem larger and may add some because of that. Don't go too white though because it can seem cold and buyers may worry about staining.
