I think that they believe that for the same reason that people used to believe that the earth was flat. Give people something to believe in, and they will change reality to fit that mold. It doesn't matter whether it's rational or makes common sense, as long as it fits their internal concept about what is real. They don't even care of the rest of us think that they're crazy, their God is all powerful and disease is just another way to punish unfaithful.

They are misguided. The diseases don't come from human sin. Our inability to be resistant to disease is from sin. Our ability for our cells to renew themselves on a ongoing basis as doctors know they were originally designed is due to sin.

Because back in the way old days, when something happened to you that wasn't "biblical" correct it was because of sin. The plague was caused by sin. Wars are caused by sin. (and there are plenty of websites to back this up).
So now AIDS is our natural response to this disease (sin). We are all conditioned to believe this, because most Americans and Western Europeans are conditioned to receive this information.
Even those without Christian backgrounds will believe this. Why? because back in the way way old days. Man had a very primitive view of life. Fire? it came from God being angry with man because he couldn't explain it and it was beyond his understanding. Earthquakes? it came from the demons below.. So man adjusted his behaviour. If you had a rash. you have a sin.. because no one in the family did. Obviously you did something wrong. And it continues to this day because we can't explain things and let the christians explain it for us.

Hello, Shallow's...:
Jesus said to a man He healed: "Behold, you are made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you"
That is a pretty clear indication that God can protect us from being contaminated by bacteria.
The Bible does not say how bacteria became so harmful--Satan might have something to do with it. But there are many friendly and necessary bacterias.

People that sin every day according to the Christian reigion don't get sick on a daliy basis . There seems to be a lack of a direct relationship between the two listed assumptions .

To further their bigotry through socially accepted religious avenues. If someone wants to hate homosexuals or people with skin different than their own, if they dislike certain behaviors or want to feel superior to others, they find interesting ways of doing it. Floods are caused by the loving god, diseases are created for certain people and there is a place to be baked for all eternity, take your pick. Why does anyone believe any of this nonsense? Fear? Guilt? Ignorance? Hate?

Human sin leaves us without a perfect immune system, which would be able to completely ward off harmful bacteria and viruses. I am aware of how our systems work. If you noticed, the process by which our cells regenerate seems (to all biologists) to be meant to continue indefinitely, but for SOME odd reason they eventually stop and we gradually die. Perhaps it has to do with us being sinners and being preprogrammed to eventually stop regenerating...

There are a lot of people who would prefer to
have faith than actually understand the process
of disease.
Personally, I think doing so is abdication of
your responsibility to think like an adult.
