Lent only goes into April some years, Easter is a floating holiday because it follows Passove which is based on the lunar calendar of Judaism. Easter is the first Sunday following the full moon after the vernal equinox.

As often it as in April it is in March.

The days of Lent are based on the date of Easter which has a formula. The day set for Easter in the Western Church is the first Sunday after the first full moon follow the vernal equinox. So the first day of Lent changes from year to year because Easter changes based on the above formula. I thought it was kinda cool to have Palm Sunday on April 1st.
