No, he was crucified by the Romans. We are all responsible for putting him there! He took the punishment for our sins!

Nope, Rome did.

Jesus committed a political crime - declaring he was the Messiah. This was seen as a threat to the ruler of Rome. Jesus, like all the Messiah claimants before him was executed to protect the Roman empire.

If Jesus had truly commited a religious sin - the Roman government would not have cared. They didn't get into that sort of thing - which is why the Jews had their own governing party. The Jews stoned those who broke the Law during Jesus' time - he would have been no exception.

Later - when the Jews refused to convert they were protrayed as the killers of Jesus. They are even made to claim "May his blood be on us and his children". Which is pretty out there.

The historical background of the NT - such as the true nature of Pilate, the poltics, the Jewish beliefs and roles of the Sadducces and Pharisees are pretty skewed.

Short answer: Jewish leaders had Jesus nailed to a tree

Long answer: Jewish leaders, acting out of free of further represion by the Romans had Jesus nailed to a tree. (A group called the Zelots were a popular revolutionary group that tried to overthrow the Roman rule which often led to more repession). It was custom to have a criminal tied and left to suffocate because crucifixion one would have to pull themselves up to breathe, especially when the legs were broken. Now, does this mean Jews are bad. NO! NEVER! A few people acting in what they thought was the best, killed an innocent man, who Christians believe was the Son of God and the Savior. Jesus, Mary, the Mother of Jesus, all of Jesus' disicplies, Joseph of Arimethia, and others that spoke for him were all Jews.

No. Jesus was never hanged. He was crucified by the ponchas pilot [romans]. He suffered died and was burried. Some people, like myself, believe He rose again on the third day. You should also know that Jesus was a Jew so the Jews had no reason to hang Him. Perhaps a quick flip through the bible this Easter will help you...=/

First of all, nobody hung Jesus, he was nailed to a cross. The answer above that they were forbidden by their religion is wrong, they were forbidden by the Romans. Only Romans at that time were allowed to give the death penalty.

Why, yes they did. He was pointing out all the things about the Jewish religion that were retarded in that time and it pissed them off.

Ok and if this is a trick question, Jesus was not hanged he was crucified...

Jesus was crucified. He was in the very center of God's will. No one took His life, He gave it up so that we do not have to be separated from Him in eternity. We have choice to make. As the gift is free it was not cheap. Invitation is valid until we die. Mortality is 100 %.
