I was raised in a family that rarely attended church ..
I made the choice to be a non-believer based on the reality that I can't be presented with anything that I would consider to be physical PROOF of existence.
There are many things out there that could just as easily explain the existence of aliens.. as there are for the existence of God..
Believe what ya want :)

I barely believe in God. At least, I do to a point, when I'm cscared, ecspeccially concerning death.
Growing up, I was raised to follow---yet question---authority. Dad, raised in a strict Roman Catholic household, spent his life questioning the bible and decieded if God was all that great, he wouldn't create a species just to worship him. He'd prefer peace, harmony and love (instead of a Sunday in a church.) I agree tremendously. I was also raised to understand the morals of Bible storys (what are they trying to say) as opposed to believe them (Jesus did this this an this end of story period). Religon, at the end of the day, is more about finding a path toinner peace. We all need something to worship or at least believe is authoritizing us, who doesnt?
At the end of the day, its not whether He is real, it's what He stands for (kinda like Santa Claus)

I was raised a Christian. I was raised in a religious home. It was later that I came to realise that religion is just organized superstition.
BTW, how, exactly, does one try to believe something? Either the evidence you hear is convincing or it isn't. There's really nothing you can do on your part to be convinced more. You can study a subject, but you can't force yourself to believe it (aside from some brainwashing techniques).

why don't you? Because I can't force myself to believe in a concept that's logically impossible.
have you ever tried? Yes. I've tried to force myself. It didn't work.
were you raised in a religious home? Raised Catholic for nearly 2 decades.

I was taught to observe, analyse and decide. Applying that all my life, I see no reason to even consider that God exists. There are many older books than the bible with different ideas, but Christians disregard them. You really can't pick only the myths that suit you and discard the rest.

I find no evidence to suggest that I should.
When I see the universe, I see a convergent system which works fine without any additional "designer" components added on...
I am raised in a Catholic household.

I was raised Christian. I noticed that every answer was too easy, and lacked investigation.
Example: How do we know the bible is the word of God?
Answer: Because it says so
But when you do the homework, you find that the books were at first stories told by men, then written by men, collected by men, SELECTED (and voted upon) by men, and translated by men. They contain improbabilities that are FAR more likely to be explained rationally than irrationally. The gospels were written generations after Matt, Mark, Luke, John died. Mark and Luke weren't even apostles, etc.
So, upon asking myself myself which is more likely; the answer always came to the non-biblical answer.
