At my friend's wedding she had the DJ (who also happened to be her MC) announce the last dance and then everyone just started leaving right after, and the bride and groom went right upstairs. People usually get the hint when it's announced like that.
At my sister's they had the MC announce that the bride and groom were leaving, and they had all the guests line up in two lines facing each other and hold their hands up to form a tunnel and the bride and groom exited through the tunnle and went right up to their room. It was really neat!

I would suggest that your DJ/Announcer/Coordinator ask everyone to gather around the dance floor and you dance for a few minutes then you could possibly go around the circle and hug everyone, or high five or something, then leave. Or you could do what everyone else suggested have everyone line up outside or in the hallway and throw petals, light candles, throw confetti then the bride and groom can run through, and get onto the elevator, or run out to your get-away car

I have a girlfriend who was married last May. She had a lot of peopel at her reception that were older and ready for bed. So, the DJ announced that this would be the last song before the couple left. After the song, everyone gathered outside to "see them off". They got in their car and drove off for about 30 minutes to give the older folks time to go home. They then came back and stayed until the end of the reception. They spoke to all of the bridesmaids and groomsmen and then left. Congratulations on your wedding.

We stayed until the very end because we weren't going anywhere for a honeymoon and we had lots of out of town guests that we don't see often. But I have been to weddings where they announce the exit of the bride and groom.

The dj just announced that we would be leaving soon, and to please gather outside with the sparklers we had for the guests to wave as we left. We had someone...I think the best man, give us the high sign when everyone was set and sparklers lit, then we left.

Usually the bride goes and changes clothes and when she comes out everyone is outside waiting. The too walk out to the car and drive away. Happily ever after.

The DJ/bestman annouces your departure and everyone goes outside to watch you get into the limo. If you try to say goodbye to everyone you'll wind up there all night and you have better things to do.

Some people do have it announced.
At ours, we really didn't plan anything - and I was dancing with someone and my husband just came and got me and took me away!
