No....it's not ok. There are many prescription and over the counter pills that can potentially thin the blood slightly - therefore you run the risk of making it alot more difficult to tattoo you. In addition, I do not recommend getting Emla cream prescribed either because although it numbs the area for a short bit, many artists will not touch you if they know you used that and also, it can potentially affect the outcome of your tattoo and how well your skin takes the ink and such. In addition, after it wears down, your senses are somewhat heightened because it's a bit shocked at the feeling it's suddenly ...feeling...
Best thing to do is to eat a good meal before hand and bring a friend along to talk to you. The pain is like bee stings...lots of bee stings. After about 5-10 minutes, your body adapts to the feeling of the tattoo and it's not so bad. (Your endorphines kick in)
Do NOT take any medicine, drink, or take any drugs before getting your tattoo.
I have a pretty low pain tolerance and was able to get one. You should be able to do it too...really...best of luck.

No Hog it's not ok to take pain pills before you get a tattoo. Depending on what you take it can cause excessive bleeding and other problems. If the tattoo artist knows you're taking them you they won't work on you. Besides dude.....why would you need pain pills? Getting a tattoo doesn't hurt as much as it is annoying. Have you ever been around somebody grinding metal? Getting a tattoo is kinda like being hit with the little burning sparks of metal flying off the grinder wheel. It not like they're setting your arm on fire and putting it out with an ice pick. I sat for nine and a half hours weekend before last getting a cover up done. I sat through the whole procedure without taking pain killers so SUCK IT UP. If I can do it so can you. My wife sat through 3 and 1/2 hour the same weekend. No pain pills. No screaming or crying. She spent most of the time reading a magazine. If she can do it so can you. My daughter spent almost 3 hours getting MORE work done on a full back piece. No pain meds. REALLY ....you are blowing the whole pain thing WAY out of proportion. Here is a link to pics of all three of us under the needle. Not a big deal...You can do this http://new.photos.yahoo.com/slideshow?view=album&c=roughrider57&albumID=576460762395192352&phdone=http%3A%2F%2Fnew.photos.yahoo.com%2Froughrider57%2Falbum%2F576460762395192352

Don't take anything before you go to get tattooed (no pain medication, no alcohol, and no drugs). Anything you take could potentially interfere with, for example, your blood chemistry (e.g. thinning your blood) or could have other unexpected side effects. Tattoo artists will generally not be happy to work on people who have taken anything in advance of getting their tattoo, because why take the risk?
In any case, the 'pain' of getting tattooed is really not that bad. People often compare it to a hot, scratching feeling, like a cat scratch, and generally find it isn't as bad as they thought it would be.
Hope this helps!

No it is not a good idea. Drinking alcohol & some drugs thin your blood causing you to bleed alot and it pushes the ink out as thay are trying to tattoo you and you end up with a ugly faded looking tattoo..waste of money. Most tattoo artist won't tattoo you if they know you've been drinking or doing drugs.I have three tattoos yes they where painful but thats part of the experience...suck it up

No, they thin the blood; if you bleed to much the ink won't take and it will create blank scar tissue which is more painful to go over and some artists won't do it because the ink doesn't generally take well over scar tissue. You shouldn't drink alcohol with in 24 hours of going in either, again due to excess bleeding.
If you can't man up and do it right then give it up and get a henna.

DON'T LISTEN TO PEOPLE THAT SAY YES YOU CAN. The real answer is NO YOU CAN'T!!!!!!!!! It will thin your blood and you'll bleed loads while having the tattoo done. The ink and blood will merge so the tattooist will have to keep stopping to wipe the blood off. The tattoo will take longer to heal as well. Don't take any pills and don't drink any alcohol they both thin your blood.

The place where I go won't do a tatoo if you take ANYTHING, even if you drank the night before. Personally, I find it exciting to get a tatoo and not painful (compared to childbirth). It just feels like an irritation. Half way through your first one, you'll be thinking about your next one!

I was told not to take aspirin or anything that would thin the blood. I guess it depends on where you are getting your tattoo. Mine was on my ankle, and since I needed to walk and drive, the artist said don't take aspirin, and elevate my leg when I got back to work. I would ask your tattoo artist and see what they say to do.

NO!! I have 2 reasons...
1-it can thin your blood an cause many issues...
2-MOST IMPORTANTLY-The pain is like a right of passage...if you can't take the pain you don't deserve the art!!!!! (BEST ADVICE I'VE GOTTEN FROM ANY ARTIST EVER!!!!)
Take it like a man!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!
