Did the doctor culture your throat or did he just look at it and decide it looks like strep? If it was cultured and the test was positive, then you just need to give the antibiotics time to work. Usually it only takes a day or 2 to start to feel better, so I'm wondering if you really do have strep or if it is something else. If it was NOT cultured and he just thought it looked like strep, he might have been wrong (I'm not blaming him, just saying you never know for sure without a culture), and you might have either a viral cold-type illness, or mono (also caused by a virus). These would not improve with antibiotics. Mono can be detected with a blood test. Good luck!

Antibiotics take a few days to "sink in" so to speak. You'll still feel cruddy for a day or two yet, but don't stop taking your medicine.
The last time I was on antibiotics, I felt like crud for three or four days after I began taking the things. It seems pointless at first, yes, but keep taking the medicine at the right time for every dosage. Don't skip it or delay it. The more vigilant you are in taking the antibiotics, the better they'll work.
And whatever you do, keep taking them even after you feel marvelous. If you don't take the full course, your body might not fight off all of the infection - and it'll come back worse than before.

For the sake of argument let's say you started the Z-pak Wed. at 4:00pm. Thurs. at 4:00pm is 24 hours. You'll need to have an antibiotic in your system for at least 48 hours before you begin to see or feel a difference. Also, use anesthetic throat sprays and salt water gargles to help with throat pain. By Sat. you should feel a difference.
If for some reason there is no lessening of your symptoms by the time you finish the Z-pak, report this to your doctor. You may need another round of ABT.

Hi Vanesha. I agree with TumTum. Your doctor should have ordered a "culture and sensitivity" test to confirm his impression of 'strep throat' and to determine which antibiotic is best to treat it.
I will be harsher in my criticism of your doc if he/she did not order this test. To make a diagnosis of 'strep throat' and to prescribe an antibiotic without doing a culture and sensitivity test is MALPRACTICE. This issue has been addressed over and over again in the medical journals, yet docs continue to do it WRONG - and, in the process, do potential harm to their patients.
Best wishes and good luck.

strep is a nasty little bug...you'll feel like crap for a while. Just get plenty of rest and drink a lot of water. flush your body and take your meds and you will feel better...just give it time to run it's course
