In 1972, twenty-six Brown Berets occupied the Santa Catalina Island and claimed it for Mexico. However, by this time, the organization had been weakened by internal conflicts and police (and possibly CIA) infiltration. There were approximately thirty chapters throughout the Southwest when the Los Angeles chapter dissolved, but not all the members abandoned the organization.

They were originally part of what's called Mexico-- until your European Spanish conquistadors claimed it after they killed off millions of true natives up and down the coast.
Then US conquerers came later and used the same tactics to steal the land. It's all so gotdam complicated. Don't fall victim - you need to work together in peace and recognize that everyone (even most Europeans) had or is a slave to a descendent of an aristocratic European Conquerer. That's why poorer people settled in the Americas-- to escape and live free.
If you are Latin American (whose ancestors were enslaved by Europeans), get with the program and quit speaking their language- Spanish. Yuck. Get educated about history and find your original language.

These lands were never really part of Mexico or Spain. At best spain and Mexico colonized a few cities along the coast and enslaved some of the natives. The inland area remained independent of spanish and Mexican conquest. I can't even find treaties that Mexico or spain signed in California. That is the standard proof of ownership of land in AMerica. It was upheld in Canadian court, and Canada almost had to slice a part of British Colombia because they were missing one treaty. They had to buy that treaty for a huge sum to keep their country continuos.
As for theft of land, My great grandfather had his land stolen by Mexicans and his property burned. THe Mexican army then chase my great grandfather to America. Mexico should start compensating land they stole before they start demanding back land, which they stole.
