Orman was born on the south side of Chicago, Illinois in 1951 to Russian Jewish immigrants. Her father ran a take-out chicken shack[citation needed], where Orman worked part-time. As a child, she and her brothers worked odd jobs to bring in extra money[citation needed]. Orman was an undergraduate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from which she holds a B.A. in social work. In 1973, she and some friends moved to Berkeley, California, where she became a waitress at a local bakery until 1980. From 1980-1983, she was trained by and worked as an Account Executive at Merrill Lynch, and from 1983-87 she was Vice President of Investments for Prudential Bache Securities. In 1987, Orman founded her own business, the Suze Orman Financial Group, which she directed from 1987-1997.[
Orman told The New York Times magazine in February 2007 that she is a lesbian. Her partner of seven years is Kathy Travis, a coproducer on The Suze Orman Show.[ In the interview, Orman regretted that she cannot marry her partner and gain the corresponding tax advantages

Why do you bother to think about it? Her life is her life. Whether she is in or out of the closet should have no impact on your life. Did you ever pay attention to her life before? Will you pay any more or less attention to her life now?
Do you pay attention to Britteny Spears life? She's heterosexual and seems like her life is far worse to have kids hearing about that what little they may hear about Suze Orman.
Gee! Why did you extend the time? Didn't like the answers you were getting? What do you expect from the LGBT section?

I believe she'd be fine "keeping her personal life to herself" if the world wasn't heteronormative and assumed she was straight until proven gay. By coming out, she's merely telling everyone "Hey, by the way, I'm gay.".
I hate Suze Orman with a vengeance- my mother loves her- I find her cutesiness irritating, her name (Suze? I'd take 'Susie', 'Susan', 'Sue', anything but Suze!) ridiculous, and her annoying use of "Big boy" to be godawful. Her coming out hasn't endeared her to me at all.
But I respect her orientation and the fact that she had the guts to come out and say it and be honest and truthful. "Keeping your personal life to yourself" too often means lying to yourself, too, and feeling ashamed.

Why shouldnt ANYONE come out of the closet? Being in the closet and lying to the world is not a good thing. Come out, be yourself and enjoy life.

who really cares whether you respect her or not. If she has reliable financial information to share with us, then you can listen to her or not. Whether she is a lesbian or not has no ipact on your life. get your head out of your b.u.t.t and let others be who they are.
I praise her for the strength to come out of the closet and be proud of who she is.

No. It was important to her to come out, do it! Her sexual preferences have nothing to do with her ability to do her job.
