Make sure that you removed the head. Do a thoughal check. Even if you had removed the body and left the head it can still cause infection. If you have removed the WHOLE tick, just make sure that you disinfected the area well.

Whenever your dog gets a tick, no matter what, you should always take him to the vet and have them look at it. Even if you get the whole tick out, the vet should examine the area just to make sure.
Now, you say you're not sure if you got the whole tick out. If that's true, then you should definately get your dog to his vet. They usually know how to get the ticks out better than we can. When it comes to our pets, we're always afraid of hurting them. The vet or vet tech can do the deed without being emotional about it.
Once it's all over, put Neosporin on the area until it heals, and get a flea and tick medicine for your dog.

The head of the tick may still be attached. You can try to remove with tweezers. Or you can just wait until it falls off.... it will not stay on there long if it is separated from the body.

Call a vet if you are still concerned. DO NOT take a lit match or lighter and try to "burn" it off. I have heard of people doing that.... you will only burn your dog and make it worse.
