Tattoos have to be injected into the dermis. That is how it stays. If it is in the epidermis, it will not stay at all. All that hype for temptoos are from crappy equipment done by people who don't know what they are doing.
It fades and goes bad in a short period of time with that junk but does NOT disappear - you are just left with something that has to be covered up or lasered off.

No, there aren't. However I can see why your friend would believe this; it's an idea that's been around for some time.
There was a trend a few years ago (in the UK, at any rate) for certain places - mostly hairdressers and tanning salons, and the like - to offer tattoos which they claimed would last for, variously, three or five years. This wasn't in fact the case. The rate at which the surface layers of the skin replace themselves is much, much quicker than that - anything which lasted that long would be likely to remain there forever.
Added problems with this process were that it was being carried out not by tattoo artists, with a good understanding of design issues and plenty of experience, but by hairdressers and beauticians, so there was a good chance the tattoos would be pretty pants.
Worse still, the equipment being used was found to be impossible to sterilise properly. So, people who thought they were getting a 'temporary' tattoo were in fact getting a bad permanent one, and at the same time risking contracting a blood-borne disease like Hepatitis C or HIV. Needless to say, the practice was banned.
In any case, even if it were possible to do this, what would the result be? It's not as though it would suddenly disappear one morning after two (or three or five) years... instead, you'd have a tattoo that looked horrible as it gradually faded over a period of months or years. What would be the point of that?
I hope that makes sense!

Well yes cosmetic tattoos come off in a few years... Well not the whole tattoo, but it starts fading. This is a fact because my cousin had one on her wrist and it just started fading away and she had to re-do it with real ink because it started to disappear. But these tattoos don't disappear fully, so I'd say go with a real one and think a lot before getting it, so that you can be sure. I'm thinkng of getting one too and I'm still not sure. I guess the disappearing one would be a great possibility if it was completely true!

There are henna tattoos, but they don't last long, and the color range is VERY limited. Other than that, they are permanent, save surgical/laser removal. If you have questions about the aging of the pigments, ask a professional in your area. Some colors do fade much quicker than others, but if you are going to go through the time/pain/$$$ of a tattoo, you would think you would want to keep it forever.

Well, I am not sure about it. I have 3 tattoo before I became Christian. All my 3 tattoo are colorful, and they had to it twice in two weeks. I have them for 5 years, and they look still the same. I guess it is depend on what kind they use ink. Maybe some people use a fake ink that will last only for 2 years. They just want $$$. So you will have to be careful to check where place you want to get it. However, maybe you need to think twice before you get a tattoo....

these tattoos have been advertised for some years now and are absolute rubbish. they tend to be done with the ink that was supposed to be used for semi permanent make up and are often done with the machinery meant for that purpose,a mini tattoo done this way takes forever and very often has to be redone, i have seen some very messy jobs done this way, even leaving scars on the skin, they don't fade gradually either so you will end up with something very tatty.
or be decisive and have the real thing or don't have anything at all !!

Myth. Along with all the other pieces of info here, I'd suggest that if you intend to get a tattoo, know that it will be with you forever. There is no way around it.

I heard that white ink tattoos tend to fade rather dramatically. They aren't intended to but I guess that's just the way the cookie crumbles. However, I've also heard that they do not show up on certain skin types.
