I'VE BEEN FREAKING OUT FOR DAYS FOR SOME REASON! I FEAR OF BEING SENT TO A MENTAL INSTITUTION FOR TESTS! I'VE READ SOMEWHERE THAT THE STAFF ALWAYS RESTRAINED PATIENTS AND PUT THEM IN A SECLUSION ROOM. THIS MOSTLY HAPPENS TO ANY PATIENT, WHETHER THEY ARE CALM OR OUT OF CONTROL. I FEAR BEING STRAPPED DOWN FOR INJECTIONS AND PAINFUL TESTS! I DON'T DESERVE THAT KIND OF TORTURE! TRUST ME, I TEND TO FREAK OUT AND RUN AWAY IN PANIC IF I'M ABOUT TO BE RESTRAINED AND PAINFULLY TESTED FOR SOME REASON! I ALSO READ SOMEWHERE THAT THE TESTS ARE VERY PAINFUL! NOW I HAVE PROBLEMS TRYING TO CONTROL MY BREATHING AND HEARTRATE! WHAT AM I GONNA DO TO AVOID BEING SENT TO A MENTAL INSTITUTION?

Whoa whoa whoa... You watch too much TV. A co-worker of mine had a son who asked to be committed and they sat with him, talked with him to evaluate his status. Bottom line, unless you are a threat to others or yourself, they need consent to do these things to you (restrain)...so calm down. They aren't going to haul you off tied down, kicking and screaming, drag you into a rubber room and start feeding tubes into you and needles upon arrival.

I will briefly share my personal experience with a similar situation. I knew somethng was very wrong.. I knew my thoughts and feeling and actions were out of control. I called a family member to come to my house and bring me to the hospital. It was in the middle of the night, but the hospital had a mental health professional there. They asked me to empty my pockets and leave my shoes (laces) and belt at the desk. I was put in my own very plain little room with soft lighting and a warm comfy chair given a blanket and some kind of perscription tranqulizer in a pill form with some milk.. and the nurses walked by giong about their business giving me an occasional glance. About a half hour later.. the on call doctor type psychologist came in and asked me a bunch of questions about how I was feeling and worked towards getting an understanding of what was going on with me.. I was admitted to the hospital to an open-ended inpatient program for people with mental instabiliy .. some people stayed 3 days ... some stayed 3 months. There were many different people there as patients for many different mental health related reasons.
No locks on the doors .. no restraints .. almost a dorm like setting.. a shared kitchen at the end of the hall, a large recreation room with movies and puzzles and books, a bathroom attached to every room. I went to several mandatory classes a day and had individual counseling sessions at the beginning and end of the day to evaluate how things were going. The only pain involved it the needle pinch for blood testing to make sure the medication is at the right level in your body.
I believe that if you are coherent enough to be able to post on here about how you feel and what you are thinking, you will be attended to in the exact same way that I was and in a similar setting.
Mental Institutions still exist, but they are strictly for the really out of control and dangerous types..
Just dont be scared to find some help.. it does exist. And, it is much easier for you if you go to it rather than waiting too long and putting yourself in a position where there is no other option than for it to be forced on you.
Hope this helps .. Good Luck :)

I fear going back to a hospital too. But it's nothing like you described, knowing that I hope helps... I was put in a hospital last year after trying to commit suicide, and nothing like what you described occured. It wasnt a fun experience, but i was never restrained or hurt in any way. And a lot of the people there shared a room with others.

I dont know how to make the fear stop, i wish i did... but if u ever need to talk you can im me...
good luck

You cannot be sent to a mental institution unless you agree to it or you attempt suicide and you still can only be held for so long, trust me I have been there. They do not lock you up and strap you down and inject yo with anything. They ask what medications you are currently taking when you go in and they like to keep you on them and keep an eye on you if they notice they are not working then they will suggest changing them to find the correct ones that will work for you. It is illegal for them to Strap you down and inject you with anything, the worst thing they could do to you is put you in a padded room and let you do your freaking out and then once you've calmed down bring you out. You need to relax and go to a quiet comfortable place and just think positive and stop thinking of this crazy thought it is NOT going to happen! Trust me I have been in a mental hospital for attempting suicide and they never strapped me down and injected me with anything. RELAX!

Have a cup of warm milk with honey and take a walk to clear your head. After that write down what was bothering you and then what you can do to resolve the issues. For example: If you are behind on an assignment -talk to the teacher for an extension, If you hate your diet-change it (www.MyPyramid.gov) if you want to see Europe - get a job and start saving - make a plan. Everything can be handled if you just slow down and take it in steps. Good Luck!

Talk to your doctor. They can treat anxiety disorders without putting you in an institution. Institutions are only a last resort in extreme cases, if you wish to be voluntarily committed during an episode or if you are a danger to yourself or others. Your doctor can help you, talk to him.
