It was a different age, with a different moral zeitgeist.
Darwin is not considered a god or a saint by Atheists in any way. Just an incredibly hard working guy that well supported some amazing realizations at the time.

Darwin was a devoted christian but turned his back on the religion and then came up with his theory of Evolution.

If you want to study some real science, a true scientist was Gregory Mendel. Darwins' studies shouldn't be studied. Study Mendel's work and you'll actually do some good in the world.

If you want to compare Hitler to Darwin, well they are both based off the same premise: Darwin believed the strongest species survived and Hitler believed the Germans were the strongest species and thus had the right to kill any other.

It doesn't matter to me what kind of person Darwin was. He was the first to write about evolution, which makes him somewhat the father of biology as we know it today.
We've moved on 150 years now, knowledge has increased, and Darwins theory still stands firmly and is proven over and over again.

Darwin isn't viewed as a God, nor as a "saint". He is viewed as what he was, human. We don't hold what Darwin said as absolute truth not to be questioned as you religious do with your "sacred" books.
