I'll be honest that I don't know much about the guy or his ministries, except what I've heard on here. I looked through his website, and I just watched an interview on CNN (why they are doing a Christian theme on the news channel...I don't know.)

I hear a lot of people say negative things about him. While, I don't agree with his beliefs (Christianity,) I thought he had some reasonable things to say during the interview.

For example, he said that the religious beliefs or lack thereof should not influence who we choose as a president. We should choose someone who is fit for the job.

Tell me what objectional things he says that gets people upset with him.

Please, don't be rude. I'm not trying to offend anyone, I just want personal opinions on why people like/dislike him, and why they have that opinion.

In his interview tonight (same one you've mentioned) Jerry Falwell uttered the best public statement he has ever muttered. I was shocked, but pleased for this long awaited display of intelligence.

Falwell is obnoxious, arrogant, holier-than-thou, obviously greatly opinionated, and most often so far right that he is blind to the views and hopes of the folk in the center and left in American (and Christian) society. I believe these are some of the reasons people from all walks of life dislike him.

As an atheist, I certainly do not agree with Falwell often.

Falwell is a Baptist preacher with an enormous empire based in Lynchburg, VA. He has had his own radio program, television broadcasts, several published books, an "autobiography" (ghostwritten, ironically, by a now-openly gay Christian man), took over PTL after the Jim & Tammy Faye scandals, has his own enormous church (Thomas Roads Baptist Church), and has a large conservative Christian university (Liberty University).

He's pretty famous for making extremely inflammatory statements blaming all of America's ills on the sins of liberal and secular Americans. He had some sketchy business practices awhile back for using church funds to lobby for his favorite political candidates. He uses a lot of propaganda and rhetoric to persuade/manipulate his followers that God is always on his side. He fought against desegregation and the civil rights movement for quite some time in his younger pastoring days.

Overall, he's just a sketchy guy who uses sketchy tactics to present a sketchy Christian message.

Falwell began a group called the "Moral Majority" which attempted to all but make Fundamentalist Christianity the state religion of the US. He got it in good with Reagan when he ran for president. He has absolutely no cares for anyone who doesn't have his religious beliefs. He is a hypocrite.

JERRY, takes 10% of the employees wages as A TITHE without their Consent! It is part of the REQUIREMENT to work there!

YOU don't know this, but 25-years ago, JERRY, told the pastors of the 10-largest Churches to go out and BORROW the funds TO PREACH THE GOSPEL, because Christ would be back within 10-years!

ALL OF THOSE CHURCHES are Now Closed, AND HIS MINISTRY IS IN DEBT!

Did HE miss, "God's Word = Done by God's Man = God's Way = Will receive = God's Supply!

Perhaps you were not old enough to Remember the "I FOUND IT" Campaign either?

Thanks, RR

He is straight as an arrow. He preaches against abortion, but also provides a safe place for mother and child if she agrees not to abort. He pays for all living and medical expenses. if the mom does not want the baby, they take care of adoption. In other words-Falwell puts his money where his mouth is. Only someone who has something to be ashamed of barks at Falwell.

It's kind of like the old Dean Martin song, Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime.

Well, everybody also DISLIKES somebody sometime, too.

I tend to have no "real" feelings towards people I have never met... making random judgments based on media reports is kind of like making random judgments based on gossip.

I neither like nor dislike the guy.
I've never met him.

The man is a blowhard who truly believes that he has to say the things that he says...
He is a shock jock for the religious right....

I haven't heard anything about him lately but in the past he had a reputation of being judgemental and cold hearted toward less than perfect "sinful" people like most of us are.

Dr. Falwell is a good man. He is an intelligent man, the President of a large college. He has done much for women in need. I respect him.
