Friday, He had to be taken off the cross before sundown, because that was the beginning of the sabbath.
and sabbath is on Saturday.

and Jesus celebrated the passover on Thursday, after which He went to the garden and was arrested there, then He was tried, and crucified on Friday.

It is more likely a Thursday than a Friday, (perhaps even a Wednesday) and here's why:

Jesus was crucified Thursday before Sundown, stayed Thursday night, Friday, Friday night, Saturday, Saturday night and then left early Sunday morning at dawn. Remember, the Jews count the beginning of a day at sundown, not sunrise.

3 Days:
Sometime Thursday before Sundown
Friday....12 hours (6 to 6)
Saturday....12 hours (6 to 6)

3 Nights
Thursday night....12 hours (6 to 6)
Friday night....12 hours (6 to 6)
Saturday night....12 hours (6 to 6)

This time frame would not have to be a specific 72 hour period, but it would have to be a minimum of 60 hours + additional hours.

Jesus died at 3:00 Thursday afternoon. Passover was that evening. Thursday itself was called "The Preparation Day". The 7 Day feast of Unleavened Bread began at Sundown that evening with a Passover meal . That same sundown Thursday evening began their Sabbath-High-Holy Day rest. This was not their Saturday-Sabbath rest, which starts on Friday evening. This was their High-Holy-Day-of-Rest, the feast of Unleavened Bread.

You can look at Leviticus 23 for the order of the week.

That's a great question. Since the gospels and epistles are silent about the matter but focus rather on the reality of the event itself, the important thing is THAT He died for the sins of HIs people, not when or what day so long it conforms to the third day whether it be Thursday or Friday. Paul says it so eloquently in I Corinthians 15:3 - "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and He was buried and rose again the third day according to the Scriptures." It is the gospel of Christ that saves us, not the day. Praise God we dont worship days, moons, images, stars, planets, etc. We worship the Christ of the cross who bore the sins of HIs children and the proof positive that God the Father was satisfied is that He rose again, otherwise, we would have never known that His death accomplished anything.

He was crucified on THURSDAY! Perhaps if you will look into the Year of Jubilee?

There were Two Sabbaths!

(Matthew 12:40) For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

DO THE MATH! Christ could NOT have died on Friday!

Thanks, RR.

He was crucified on Friday. You are probably thinking about the Last Supper he had with his apostles, which did take place on Thursday.

Apparent point of Confusion; his death to resurrection was about 39 hours. Be aware that it was 'night' (Gen. 1 definition) even though his death occurred about 3:00 PM. So the direct answer to the above question; Friday.

The Gospels supply 2 distinctive debts as to while Jesus replaced into crucified. Matthew, Mark and Luke say that the final Supper (the inspiration for the Christian communion provider) replaced into the Passover. that would desire to place the crucifixion of Jesus on the day *after* the Passover. yet John says that the final Supper replaced into the ceremonial dinner of coaching. That positioned the crucifixion of Jesus *on a similar time as* the Passover lambs have been being slaughtered interior the Jewish Temple--the afternoon earlier the Passover started. no one is conscious which date replaced into the surely date of the Crucifixion. Nor would desire to it fairly count.
