I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ7 Lumix w/ 7 Mega Pixels. All close up pics and low light pics are blurry. Why? Help!

If i take a picture with this camera zoomed out 100% - it is crisp and great. But when I zoom in - even just a little - it is very very blurry.

Also, when there is low light - it is ALWAYS blurry and grainy.

I dont want to use a flash in these cases because I am trying to get the "warmth" of the lighting.

A flash makes it too harsh of a picture.

I am using a SanDisk 512 MB card. The lense is clean.

What am I doing wrong? HELP!!!

i agree with the other answers. the problem most likely is not the camera, but rather the photographer not holding it still. If not using the zoom, it takes a lot of practice to hold the camera steady when shooting at less then 1/50 second. You can be somewhat successful at 1/15 second by learning ways to steady your shooting posture. The zoom makes it even more critical. The rule of thumb for 35mm cameras is to use a shutter speed that is the reciprocal of the lens length in mm. For digital a 2x zoom is 1/100 sec, for 5x zoom that is 1/500 sec. Your camera should tell you what the shutter speed will be and for indoors without flash, you might need to use a sturdy tripod to get sharper photos.

Camera has to be on sturdy and strong support may be tripod or copy stand. To avoid any kind of shake, since without flash camera is selecting very low shutter speed.

Select macro setting, a three petal flower symbol.

Use built in timer triggering to click.
