It celebrates the day that Jesus was crucified, and he was resurrected on Sunday, which is Easter. That begs the question that every little kid asks when they learn what Good Friday is: "Why don't they call it crappy Friday?"

It is a holy day in the Christian Faith where we spend time thinking about how Christ died on the cross for us. Catholics and I am not sure about the religions, take from noon till 3 to pray. This was the time Christ spent dying on the cross. Easter is the third day after his death in which he rose from the dead and accended into heaven . This then in turn opened the gates of heaven for the rest of us.

It is the day commercial Christianity advertises as being the day Christ was killed on the stake (cross).
The day he was killed was Wednesday, Nisan 14, at 3 PM in the afternoon, the same time the Passover Lambs were being slaughtered.
