Okay, okay! I have never flown before and I was pretty sure I knew the answer, but my trip is next week and someone told me today, quite adamently, that I had to have one...so I just wanted to make sure.

Not unless you plan on flying from England or something.

It's still US-to-US. You're fine.

Hawaii is the 50th state in the union known as the United States of America. We speak English, use the mighty US Dollar, and we drive on the right side of the road.

Nope. Hawaii has been a state (the 50th) since 1959. You don't need a passport to fly to Alaska and it became a state (the 49th) in 1959 too.

Don't listen to anything that idiot says. He made you look like a fool.

Absolutely not! Flying US state to US state does not require you to show proof of your citizenship (since you're staying in the same country). Tell whomever told you this that they are an idiot.....and they need to go look up the year 1959 in their history book. They'll find Hawaii listed as the 50th state of the USA!

not for directly to and from hawaii from the mainland but it is not a bad idea to have one in case you want to take a side trip to a place where one is required (i.e. Fanning Island)

This question would get you beaten up. Hawaii is an American state. The proper term for the continental US is the mainland.

No, you're still travelling between two US states. There isn't a layover in another country or anything.

Hope this helps!
