Good question, I believe its because the Allies accepted USSR's deal to declare war on Germany and open a second front after they were attacked by Hitlers war machine, but still the russians praticed genocide as well ask the polish.

The Hitler/ Stalin Pact was secret. Germany instigated the attack on Poland and the USSR took part of eastern Poland after the Germans had defeated the Polish army.
The allies at that time had enough on their plate opposing Germany without having to deal with the USSR as well.
When Germany attacked the USSR in 1941 Britain was the only nation undefeated by Germany and became an ally of of the USSR.
The USA joined the fight much later at the end of 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese and Germany declared war on it a few days later.

Yes, there wee several soviet massacres, the most famous at the forest of Brno - 3,000+ poles massacred. However, it was only German Wehrmacht and SS who entered Poland, and there was no option at that time of even withholding a war only against the USSR, let alone an enlarged front involving soviet and german forces, bearing in mind during the whole war USSR was able to absorb losses of more than 20 million with little extraneous economic effect. This is more than the casualties of all other combatant nations combined. It simply wasn't practical. Also, Germany had ambitions to invade the UK, whereas Stalin had not the resources or the strategic positioning to launch an invasion on the south coast - the only accesible point for amphibious invasion, as he had no Belgian or French ports open to him at the time. His move through Finland could potentially though have provided for a landing in scotland, although the terrain would have been very difficult to use the large scale tank rushes which characterized russian warfare at the time.

Germany and the USSR had a temporary pact in which they divided up Poland. Now, Germany did the actual invading of Poland. The USSR invaded Finland and I am not sure what else. Eventually, Germany launched a sneak attack on the USSR and the USSR joined the allies.

The enemy of my enemy is my pal - a minimum of for now. it could have been lots greater durable to conquer Germany and Japan if the Soviets weren't there helping us. Germany fell because of the fact the Soviet military killed something like 3 quarters of the German military. nicely ok, 0.5 of those iced as much as loss of existence attempting to combat you... Japan surrendered because of the fact the Soviets refused to sign a neutrality %. with Japan, and then the Soviet military invaded Japan suitable whilst we dropped the atomic bomb on them. The conflict could have lasted lots lots longer with out the Soviets on our area.
