The above article is about how Obese people in Brazil feel they are being treated like horses, because they are being asked to go to the local horse track in order to be weighed and x-rayed - the hospitals only have equipment designed to fit "average" humans weighing up to 280lbs...

Now, I can understand being upset about being asked to step onto a scale that weighs horses. However, it makes me wonder - when is too much just TOO MUCH?

These obese people are usually victims of their own failed psychologies. Sure, a few might have thyroid issues - but the majority of obese people are obese due to an inability to stop themselves from eating.

So, should it become the responsibility of the Govt/medical facilities/public transportation authorities to make LARGER items to fit the growing waistlines of humanity - or should people simply practice some self control??

Well first you have to address the underlying issue of why they're obese, thereby ruling out medical issues, then take care of the psychological ones, then you have to treat them with compassion. I'm sure Brazil's healthcare isn't to rave about so I don't expect much.

I see it this way, in our country... in a world where fatter, higher calorie foods are cheaper than better cuts of meat and vegetarian or better selections are, where the poverty level is climbing, and where fast food and our lifestyles are rush, rush rush... it's an equation for disaster. Those who have the karmic ability to control themselves do and those who don't, obviously do not.

Kids today are soaked in this and they start picking up the bad habits of the adults w/ less activity. Small changes are made where they can be given our screwy healthcare system as it is, and the rest is given the royal "finger" by those who say "I'm fat, get over it"... whaddya gonna do?

I was over 260 obese pounds myself at one point in life and I just got tired of being so horribly unhealthy and fat and changed things to where I'm thinner and more active, but it's a struggle... not everybody can meet the challenge for whatever reason.

Self control obviously isn't working. If the problem is so prevalent, I guess they probably should invest in some equipment to accommodate them. I'm SUCH a liberal, I know.
