First of all, I am not agiast Christians havving children or having them go to public school or whatnot if my wording came out that way.I was watching Ophra the other day and I saw a question that though the Bible should be tough in school. I disagree with this greatly. The bible is sopposed to be siritual and I think schools will make it a non-spiritual subject...I never realy though about that before. What is your opinion on the Bible in schools?

I don't want some other misinformed Christian teaching my child the wrong stuff.
That's how so many variations of the Christian religion go started in the first place.

You're not against Christians having children?

OK, I'll assume that statement was a mistake and answer the question.
I have 2 teens in public highschool and one in an independant Christian grade school (she will be attending the public high school next year).
I used to think it was very wrong to take the bible and prayer out of school. Now I have changed my way of thinking. Our societies (US and Canada) are very diverse. There really isn't any way to reconcile teaching the bible or including it in what we have made an all inclusive PUBLIC school system.
That being said, I beg to differ that the public system is tolerant of all religions. In order to be truly tolerant... BANNING the bible altogether is not the answer.
Christian parents need to start thinking in terms of ensuring that their home and their church are the number one and two sources of spiritual awareness and teaching for their children. They need to stop relying on their Churches only and practice what the bible teaches by taking full responsiblity for the training of their children.
Schools can no longer do this by virtue of their title "PUBLIC". Tolerance is supposedly taught within the public schools, but it is my experience (in the district I live) that the schools and school board are not only drifting away from Christian principles, but actively ridiculing them in the name of tolerance for all religions or belief systems. There is everything wrong with that.
We can only hope (and pray as Christians) that our children will remain strong in their faith. I pray every day for my children. Every one of us should do the same.

blessings :)

If we allow the bible in school , then the quran, the pagan books, the hindu books etc will be allowed in the same school also. It is best that the children learn outside of a public school about God. I teach my kids all the time and they go to bible study so they are not ignorant on what the Word says. Let your home be a loving Christian home.

Your spelling is lousy, but I'll answer what I think you said. I don't understand why ANY subject should not be open for teaching children, provided it is done at the appropriate age levels. World religion should be an elective course at senior level in HS and as an elective in college. All of it should be taught from approved curriculums, however. That goes double for religion, so as to keep the personalities out of it. And yes, the Bible, and all other holy books, can be taught objectively without all the theological disagreements.

The only sense I could make was the last sentence. I think the bible belongs in the parochial schools where and when the bible is taught. It does not belong in public schools. The teachers have a tough enough time trying to discipline and keep control enough to teach a modicum of class material. Of course, I am talking about public school, you won't find the same problems in faith based schools, unless the politicians force them to take public school incorrigible students.

This being a country founded on Christianity I think the bible should be included in public schools. Yeah, yeah, thumbs down already. As a child, we were taught christian religion in public school along side evolution. I thought it brought about a greater discipline amongst the students and respect for their teachers. I could be wrong, but looking how depressed my husband is when he comes home from teaching sixth grade, I think some of that would be beneficial. I am sure that countries who are muslim teach their beliefs at school.

I am 13 and currently go to a private school...but i will be going to a public school because i cannot afford the private schools right now. anyways...when the Bible says it should be taught in schools.....it doesnt mean that everyone will have the BIble taught in the school. it means that God knows many people willl object this...and since they will it is the parents job to give the knowledge to the child. for example....im Christian and so is my father...He teaches me about God.....although i go to a private school....and he will continue to teach me even when im in public school. God knows that this law will not be followed in everyone because not everyone believes in Him...or believes the Bible...so it is the parents job....its still the parents job even when we are taught the Bible in school. my opinon on the Bible being in schools... is that if i were the president i would not force it even though im Christian...because God gave free willl and who am i take it away? and God gave us GREAT minds to think with....and if God isnt a dictator...why should i be? im striving to be like Him....not the opposite. i think the Bible being in the schools is up to the people who own the schools...if they say no. then fine...i disagree because im Christian but i wouldnt stop because of free will.

I think I see what you're saying...If we allow the Bible to be taught in schools, they will find a way to take the true meaning out of it, dumb it down like they do the rest of the curriculum, and teach it like another storybook...

It's a good point. I don't think public schools are a good forum for teaching the Bible per se. But Biblical principles being taught throughout all the lessons, such as love your neighbor as yourself, that is needed.

As with all public education subjects like history and politics, the teachers will put their own personal slant on things and teach it as fact. I'd rather NOT let them get ahold of the bible and mess that up too. If I was near and could afford a parochial school, I'd send my kids. As for teaching them about religion, I let them attend the Sunday school classes of MY choice and I teach them at home. This is too important a subject to let public schools get their hands on.

I would have no problem with the bible being taught in school but ONLY as long as an equal amount of time is spent on all the other religions as well. So if you do not want the entire day spent on religion I suggest that it be left to the parents to brainwash, um, I meant teach (yeah that's it) teach their children about the bible.

I think that the bible should not be taught but is permissable for students to have in school. The US government has a seperation of church and state in which the government cannot push nor control our religion ... teaching the bible in public schools (or any religious books/teachings) would be against that seperation.

(tough is pronounced tuff.... you may have meant taught)
