The Bible says for believers to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
See II Corinthians 4:16 to 5:9
See also Luke 16:19-31

Actually this is a good question because some people have said that some people will go straight to hell....but if they do...then what need is there for a Judgement Day? In the Bible it also says....that while Jesus was alive He was seen talking to Moses who had died a LONG time ago. but they were in a 'waiting' place for Jesus to die so they couldgo to paradise. So this is how i look at it....those who are true Christians and are saved by Jesus' blood they will go straight to Heaven....those who are not will stand before God and be judged...and God will look in the Book of Life and see of their good and bad deeds....and He will decide their punishment. God already knows that the people who stand before Him...that they will go to Hell....so why does He need to look in the Book of Life? i think its because....He just wants to let those who arent saved...well He wants to show them that what they have done is wrong....and when people told them that they would be judged and they disregarded it and and said God wasnt real....well God is showing them that He was real the whole time ....and they are now standing before Him being judged.

i dont know this for fact...but iit is my thought. and as for the waiting place...i believe the people who arent saved will go to the waiting place and wait for Judgement Day.

God bless =]

Suppose you're at the beach and you make a nice big fancy sandcastle, complete with moat and turrets and so on. Later, the tide comes in and washes it all away - the sand gets spread around the beach and all trace of your sandcastle disappears.

Where did it go? Well, clearly the castle didn't 'go' anywhere as such - it was a temporary arrangement of grains of sand that went to make up something recognisable to us, and when the sea washed it away, it simply ceased to exist. Another day, someone else might come along and make another castle using some of the same sand that went into your castle, but the one you made is gone and can never exist again.

This is how it is with human beings - we are recognisable to ourselves and others as living organisms, but fundamentally we are temporary constructions of atoms and molecules and will one day simply cease to exist. Just as the sandcastle consists solely of the sand from which it is made, so human beings consist solely of the atoms and molecules of which they are made. When we die, our bodies will be returned to the environment to be incorporated into new living organisms, or to fall as rain, or to make the bedrock of a million years from now. We are ephemeral creatures, a brief pattern of order and complexity imposed on the raw material of the natural world. We should make the most of it, for this is all there is.

I think it takes an idiot to believe that a God that loves you would send you to hell to burn for an eternity when supposedly by Christian beliefs, life is a one shot deal. The Bible was written by men and the church uses it to scare you into being obedient to the church. Besides, there is no historical record to show that Jesus ever lived. No historians of that time wrote about him and the books of the Bible that tell of him weren't written til 100s of years after his supposed death on the cross. Jesus is a good story just like the stories of other prophets are good stories and the words attributed to Jesus are good. But some of these same words were attributed to other prophets also. The concept of Jesus is illogical. I believe that a person learns to become responsible for their actions over life times. And how would anyone learn anything by having some one die for their sins? Does one kid learn because you punish another? Why would a loving God cause some children to be born cripple and give them the same one shot deal at life? Why are some people born sociopathic killers while some people just know to do good things. Sorry folks but your Christian teachings just don't account for the way things really are and you have to be to dumb to think to accept them.

Everyone goes to heaven. Good, bad, ugly. Whats it like in heaven"?

Read Luke 16.19-31 About Lazarus and the rich man. There is a "gulf" fixed that no one can cross. Believers on one side, and the unsaved on the other.

Luk 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

We have that 1000 year period known as the millennium to go threw first before the great white throne Judgement.

Hell is the "lake of fire," which does not exist at this time.

When you die you stay buried in the grave.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun. 10 All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in She′ol (hebrew) / hades(greek)/ hell, tomb, grave(english), the place to which you are going.

Wait when Jesus calls.
“The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear [Jesus’] voice and come out.”—John 5:28, 29.

Judgement day!

The spirits of both the righteous and the wicked return to God. Their bodies return to dust.
"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7.

The body turns to dust again, and the spirit goes back to God, who gave it. The spirit of every person who dies--whether righteous or wicked--returns to God at death.

There is nothing mysterious about the spirit that returns to God at death. It is the breath of life.
"The body without the spirit ["breath," see margin] is dead." James 2:26. "The spirit of God ["the breath which God gave him," see margin] is in my nostrils." Job 27:3.

The spirit that returns to God at death is the breath of life. Nowhere in all of God's book does the "spirit" have any life, wisdom, or feeling after a person dies. It is the "breath of life" and nothing more

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7.

A soul is a living being. A soul is always a combination of two things: body plus breath. A soul cannot exist unless body and breath are combined. God's Word teaches that we are souls.

"The soul that sinneth, it shall die." Ezekiel 18:20. "Every living soul died in the sea." Revelation 16:3.

According to God's Word, souls do die! We are souls, and souls die. Man is mortal (Job 4:17). Only God is immortal (1 Timothy 6:15, 16). The concept of an undying, immortal soul goes against the Bible, which teaches that souls are subject to death.

"All that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth." John 5:28, 29. "David ... is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day." "For David is not ascended into the heavens." Acts 2:29, 34. "If I wait, the grave is mine house." Job 17:13.

people do not go either to heaven or hell at death. They go to their graves to await the resurrection day.

So we have to wait to Judgement day!
