genesis 5:1-6 - this is the book of the generations of adam. in the day that god created man, in the likess of god made he him;
male and femaile created he them; and called their name adam, in the day when they were created. and adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image, and called his name seth. seth were eight hundred years and he begat sons and daughters: and all the years that adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.
and seth lived an hundred and five years.
ok, so it says adam lived 130 years and he lived 930 years. and seth lived 105 yrs and 912 yrs (gen 5:8). hopefully, those who believe man lived to be nearly 1000 yrs. back then see the contradiction here. as explained in gen. 5:2, adam also refers to the family line, much like surnames. so to say the men such as adam lived to be 930 years or more, in my understanding, is a misunderstanding of the bible. what do you think?

and what of seth being 800 yrs, but it says he lived 105 years, but adding 800 and 105 gives us 905, not 912 as you all would suggest.

It is biologically impossible to live that long. You can hope for about 130 years, tops; after that, the genetic damage from cell reproduction takes its toll.

Adam didn't live 130 years + 930 years!
He was 130 when he had Seth.
He lived to be 930, but was 130 at the time of Seth's birth.

The scripture means that when Adam was 130 years old when Seth was born. Adam did live to be 930 years old. Remember he was created perfect. We are a long way from perfection now so our life spans are much shorter. The Bible does not contradict itself.

The math is 930-130.
So he lived 800 years after Seth was born.
What is the big deal men lived a very long time.
As you read Gen.
You will see the age of men decrease as time goes on.
Something was happening to the Gene string.
It was weakening.
Life span was decreasing.

You are not reading it right. He lived 130 years before Seth and 800 years after Seth, thus his total lifespan was 930 years. God prolonged the lifespan of man before the flood and after the flood, lifespans began to come down. Something changed in the environment of the earth during the flood causing men to live less. There was less pollution and decay on the earth so the bodies lasted longer. According to modern revelation, their lives were prolonged in order to allow them time to repent, something they apparently were not very good at doing.
I have no reason to doubt the record.

also...according to biblical scholars in the time that the bible stories were recorded, the older you were, the closer you were to god. so, when the writer says that adam, mathusalen, etc were hundreds of years old it just means that they were close to god, holy, saints, etc.
anyone knows that is impossible for a human been to live that long. and actually back then people died really young. So, for example joseph (father of jesus) was probably in his twenties when he married mary...eventhough tradition describes him as old... 20's were todays 50's ;-)

Take it literally; notice also that life spans for man on earth started shortening up dramatically after the flood.

but from what I understand
130 is how old he was when He got his wife knocked up the other is the age He died at.
