Calmen is both a first name a surname. It is also spelled Kalmen. Here is a link to the Calmens in the Social Security Death index

Put Calmen in the surname box and you will see that there were a few of them whose numbers were issued in Maryland. Next, take Calmen out of the surname box and put Calmen in the first name box. You will get 6 hits.

I have never known anyone with Calmen as a first name, but I suspect that people who use it as a firstname probably have an ancestor with that surname. Many first names have come about by first originating as a surname (i.e Madison, Taylor, Kelly etc)

Can't help you there. The only Calmen I ever knew was named Calmen C. Calmen, and the C. stood for, you guessed it...

Do you mean Calmen or Carmen? I have never heard of Calmen.
