Pretty much, (not always), the main reason you find ill-tempered animals is because they have lousy owners.

What sort of cat do you want? Pedigree or moggie?

What sort of home can you offer?

I believe that cats should always have at least one friend, ie you should have at least 2.

Are you offering a home who will have access outside and inside or are you looking for a housecat?

Can you meet food and vets bills?

What arrangements can you make for it/them when you go away?

As some other respondents has said there are lots of homes needed for rescue cats and I cannot recommend giving them a home too much.

However, you also need to consider if you have children or not. Some rescue cats are not suited to homes with children. Some rescue cats need long term care. Some rescue cats want to be an only cat. If you go for a rescue then you will need to accept a home check.

If you want to buy a pedigree then choose the breed that suits you and the various cat clubs in your area will put you onto a breeder. Clubs will hold kitten lists.

We have Maine Coons, one of the friendliest, people oriented breeds. They are huge cats with huge personalities to match. They play fetch, love playing in water, and need to be everywhere we are. They love to cuddle. Another similar ultra friendly breed are called Rag Dolls. You should have no problem finding a breeder for either of these in your area.

Your local cat shelter. Friendly cats can be from many different breeds - they're just like people. Some grouchy, some friendly. I know loads of people who have adopted from cat shelters and have been very happy with their new housemate.

Check your local rescues & shelters. There are many friendly cats just looking for a home!

Don't worry about breeds.

Hi!

Not sure about your area, but Burmese cats are among the most friendly breed of cats.

You can teach them to fetch, retrieve etc.

They're also very companionable and friendly.

Hope this helps!!

are you looking for a long term monogamous relationship or just a foot warmer. ha!
anyhoo, my answer, again is seek out the local humane society, as well as classified ads. Your best feline friend may well be waiting for you. Often times, as happened to me years ago; a loving cat owner finds themselves unable to keep their kitty due to allergies, housing, etc. and the most wonderful thing is to know that the pet you love has an appropriate home to move to.
Just my opinion

Burmese cats are renowned for their friendliness but they're expensive. Contact www.burmesecatsociety.org.uk for the kitten list, otherwise visit a rescue centre in your area and go for a kitten that comes to you.

Dont pass off terriers nonetheless! My pal has a terrier and they have a cat also and their the right acquaintances! Terriers are also really undemanding to coach!

Your local cat shelter. Take on a cat who needs a home, love and care for him and you will have a friend for life.
