A speaker is a speaker is a speaker.... it takes a supplied electrical current and turns it into vibrations of the speaker material....
no harm, no foul....
sound? Well, most speakers now-a-days in a car are generally more designed for smaller spaces and use that concept in the design and shape of the cones and baffles.... They're what vibrate and make the sound....
years ago, I replaced a set of blown woofers in some household speakers with a set I got on sale at a car audio store.... those speakers are still jumpin' and pumpin' in My living room....

You can disconnect the car speaker and hook up the home speaker in place of it; but you should not hook up the home speaker in addition to the car speaker. The car radio can run either one, but not both, safely.
The impedance difference usually means that there will be less power going to the home speaker than there would be to the car speaker. The odds are that your sound quality would be worse, not better.

yes it will work, No it won't harm anything. Only one reason why not to! Why?? House speakers aren't rated for the elements(weather) found in a car and will deteriorate very quickly in an automotive environment.
Back in the day before sub woofers we all use house speaker woofers in our cars(1976). They sounded great then and probably good now!
heck we disigned and built our own frequency crossover bridges from radio shack parts to use an entire 3 piece speaker set in a car(woofer, midrange, tweeter)

Yup it would work. How it would sound? Can't answer that without hearing it. You wont hurt anything, just make sure everything is off before you go pulling and reattaching wires.
Nice that other ppl are so smart that they can call others uneducated. If you would ever bother to check, most home units can have either 8 or 4 ohm speakers connected to them.

i see few uneducated ppl answering this question to sm guy who need sm help.
hey bro. home speakers have 8 ohms resistance (i hope u kno resistance) car audio speakers have 4 ohm resistance.
u can connct ur home speakers in ur car ..result..nothing damaged ..
dont put car speakers in home ..y?.. becoz 4 ohm resistance will take more current..so will damage ur home audio system..the guy using car speakers having no problem is a lucky guy..or he must be having a very good brand home audio.
home speakers in car will not sound very good..but ok. becoz they are designed for home environment..car speakers r designed for very small rooms..specially for car .
the most imp thing..ur home speakers will give output half of any car audio speaker..y ?..becoz it have 8 ohm resistance..if ur car head unit gives 20 watt rms per channel..that is at 4 ohms..when u connt 8 ohm speakers output will get reduced to 10 watt rms..nothing will be damaged but useless thing to do.
