Hair Is Composed Primarily Of A Protien Called Keratin, In Bundles Of Cells That Look Like Strands Of Filament Bound in An "Outer Jacket" Of Cells That Is Called The "Cuticle" Looking Somewhat Like Rope. The Inner Fibers Provide Strength, Elasticity And Its Shape (Curly/Wavy/Straight) And A Place for The Granules That Give It Color. The Cuticle Gives The Fibers Protection And Make The Hair Smooth And Shiny

The hair can be defined as a slender,Thread-like outgrowth from the follicle in the skin. It is composed mainly of Keratin. It has three morphological regions - the cuticle, the medulla, and the cortex. The cuticle is on the outside, the cortex near the center, and the medulla in the center. The hair grows from the papilla. It consists of a shaft that projects above the skin and a root that is imbedded in the skin. The lower end of the root ( what u pull out ) is the root bulb. Its basic components are keratin(a protein), a melanin ( a pigment), and traces of metallic elements.
Cuticle- Translucent outer layer of hair shaft consisting of scales that cover hair shaft.
Medulla- Central core of cells that may be present in the hair. That is filled with air.
Cortex-Main body of the hair composed of "spindle shaped" cells. That contain pigment granuals.
Keratin- A tough insoluble protein.
Papilla- A small vasuclar substance at the root of hair.

Hair has 5 elements in it : 45% Carbon ; 27% Oxygen, 6-7% Hydrogen;
15% Nitrgen & 5% Sulfur.
Hair is made of protein originating in the hair follicle. As the cells mature, they fill up with a fibrous protein called keratin. Approx. 90% of hair is protein made of long chains of aminio acids.

Dead protein... Keratin to be exact. The same as your fingernails, only in a different structure.... kind of the way carbon in sheets makes pencil "lead" and carbon in stronger bonds make diamonds.

Keratin, it's a type of protein. I'm not sure if that's all or not though...
