of course the baby is his and the reason I am worried about telling him is because he is having a hard time at work and his mother has been ill as well I just don't want to cause more things for him to worry about but I know I have to tell him

ok, he may be having a hard time elsewhere but this is something to celebrate. Set up a romantic evening - hot scented bath, nice meal, good wine, sensual massage and tell him. He'll be thrilled. Even though it seems everything is going wrong you've created new life and that's the most wonderful thing in the world.

Ok romantic evening is NOT going to get through to most of us guys! Thats really more for you ladies but it's fun some times.

That said I would take your time let him come home to a favorite cooked meal a fun show on tv he like and then approach him very excitedly and just tell him. Be excited about it and let him know your excited cause most of us guys have figured out by now that blurting out OH CRUD!!! isn't the best way to deal with our wives.
So just tell him don't worry because where I do agree with the other answers is this as a dad it's a blessing and a joy to be a new dad. Don't get me wrong scary as all get out too but thats something you two can talk about and with all the negatives about mom and work it will get better.
Plus with mom being ill this could also be a HUGE boost for mom since she gets to have a grand child and knows she's going to see her son be a dad it's pretty big there also.
As for his work when news that he's going to be a new dad gets out some of that tension at work will be let up too cause the other guys at work will give him a bad time but congratulate him too.

Maybe you could be really positive about the whole thing & tell him you've got some wonderful news This could be the one thing that's actually going well for him at the moment.
You are married & obviously have a healthy physical relationship so he must realise this is a possibility! Try not to worry too much I'm sure it'll turn out great :-).
Congratulations.

You have to tell him. No matter what. Maybe he has been wanting one and that would probably make him happy. Also you can't be hiding it, or else he might be getting suspicious if stop doing things that you used to do that would hurt that baby. Anyways he's your husband. It's just part of life.

I appreciate your sensitivity towards the stress in his life...do you think knowing you are pregnant with his child would stress him out? You might be surprised...he will have 8-9 months to think about it, and no need to worry as it is a reality. I hope he can be happy in the midst of the other stresses in his life. Be honest with him. Good Luck!

He needs to know so make it special. If you can get your hands on a father's day card get one. Give it to him saying you thought he deserved some good news. :) He'll get the hint and I'm sure it will make his day. (I always wanted to do that one. lol)
