The usual progression is for allergies like this one, type 1 hypersensitivy reaction, to get progressively worse. This is the same allergic mechanism as people with allergies to bee sting, or shellfish. This can develop into a potentially dangerous allergy so be aware of this. This allergy type is the one where the person can go into shock, their airway can close off and can be fatal. Simply google peanut allergies and you can see that even a wiff of the protein or a tiny tiny tiny amount can set it off. I would avoid peanuts, or any nuts at any cost.

Allergic reactions to peanuts, when they develop during childhood, can become progressively worse, stay the same,or gradually disappear, but there's no way to predict how this will work out for someone. Doctors are testing the development of procedures to desensitize people to peanut allergies:

I'm not sure if sniffing it would, but touching them can cause a reaction if the allergy is serious and if you eat them when you have an allergy, it will get worse.
