think we're talking about the 'prophecies' in the book of Isiah here, where it mentions the specific treatment meted out to the 'messiah' including the piercing. Jeshuah or whatever as a Nazarene was to fulfil the prophecies and presumably stage a 'resurrection'. Obviously the message got mixed up and the baying crowd, feeling cheated that he had come not to deliver them from the Roman oppression, but merely offer heavenly salvation instead, called for his crucifiction. Incidentally, would not JC have been severely p*ssed if Pilate had given him 200 hours community service instead?

Definitely not. He could have refused, and there would have been no hope for any of us.

'He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.' Luke 22:41-44 NIV

His death was, but he didn't have to be crucified. He should have been taken to the temple and been respectfully placed on the altar, something like that.

yes. It was ordained right from Genesis 3:15
15 And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring [a] and hers;
he will crush [b] your head,
and you will strike his heel."

The "he" here is Jesus
